Well, we're back in Lima, Peru where we started. Thanks to Jason, we've had a fun day of relaxing in the apartment of PCUSA missionaries Harry and Debbie Horne. It's been so nice to come and chat and relax and eat and do laundry and shower and use free internet....all the things we craved after spending so much time traveling, especially these last few days, as we've traveled a lot of distance, all by bus, and usually at night.
Last you knew we were in Sucre, Bolivia, hoping to get out, as we had been told that the highways had "broken." Guess it wasn't entirely true (although we still don't know the real reasons), but we still spent the whole day waiting around and riding two different buses, getting us into Uyuni at 2am. It was the coldest, bumpiest, loudest ride I've ever been on. We were literally driving around the middle of the desert in Bolivia. But we arrived and were happy to find two beds in a hostel. Sunday we spent the day in a 4WD touring the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world. It was such a surreal experience, floating over all the whiteness, feeling like you should be cold because it looks like snow, but actually feel quite warm cause you're in the desert. That night we traveled all night by bus to La Paz, where we hopped off the bus just to hop on another one, a 12 hour trek back in Peru. It's basically been that way until 10am today, when we pulled into Lima and headed to meet up with Harry.
If our laundry dries in time, tonight we will continue up the coast to Trujillo and then on to Mancora before heading into Ecuador this weekend. We're excited for some beach time, but also getting antsy about getting into Ecuador, as our days on this trip are numbered. My good friend from back home, Aaron, has been studying in Quito all fall, so we'll be meeting up with him there (maybe Monday, Aaron) and hopefully he can make all the decisions after that (hint, hint....). We fly back next Saturday, so really, our trip seems to be winding down. The days are still never dull, though, and we welcome every new adventure.
I just put up some pics on facebook. I wanted to put up pics on each blog post, but all the computers I've been on until now have been sketchy and it's been such a slow process that I've given up. But today you can see some of the sights from Bolivia (a country we LOVED!). I miss you all, but will see many of you soon enough!!!!! Much love, Elizabeth
I know you can't click on this, but copy and paste it into a new window and it should work. These are some pictures from Bolivia.
