When will the sun shine on Trujillo?
Published: August 26th 2008South America » Peru » La Libertad » Trujillo » Chan ChanDay 56: Sunday 24th August - Overcast on the beach in Huanchaco Up early to catch a bus to Trujillo, Peru's third city at 7am. Its a three hour journey and I decide to catch an early bus because I'm conscious of travelling quickly through Northern Peru to maximise time in what appears the more attractive (well to the tourist) South of the country. I have 2 weeks to get to Cusco for my Inca trail to start and want to spend 2 days in and around Trujillo, so that necessitates the early start. When I get to Trujillo I catch a taxi to Huanchaco, a beach resort 6 miles to the west of Trujillo.....it appeals to stay on the beach rather than in another city.....and this could be my last opportunity for some time. Voluntary work in Trujillo
Published: April 12th 2008South America » Peru » La Libertad » Trujillo » Chan ChanTRUJILLO Our reason for going to Trujillo was to do voluntary work in an orphanage. Jurgen had made contacts many months ago in the States with an American guy who knew of voluntary work needed in the area of Esperanza, Trujillo. So for months, we had been mailing 'Darlin' (the owner) re how our services could be of need. We spent our first couple of nights in a fabulous family run hostel “Residencial Munay Wasi”. The Dueña was slightly neurotic and wanted to practice her English with us at all times. She welcomed us to Trujillo by making us a few Pisco Sours and chatting with her and her family….. After making contact with Darlin who was very pleased to know that we had arrived, we took a taxi to Esperanza - 10 mins away from ... read more
Seascapes & an old adobe city
Published: August 29th 2007South America » Peru » La Libertad » Trujillo » Chan ChanWe arrived in Peru yesterday! We have been meeting up with lots of fellow travellers from Holland, Germany, and France. We took the red eye bus - 11pm to 9 am to Peru from Ecuador. Crossing the border was interesting....we had to get off the bus at 4 am and sit outside for 2 hours while the immigration officer watched movie videos....We then got to Piura and stayed for only 2 hours, then we were off to Trujillo, Peru. We arrived in Trujillo at 8pm last night and took a taxi to Huanchaco... a small fishing/surfing village just outside the city. We randomly met up with 3 other travellers at the hostel we are staying.. Nayramp, it´s on the ocean! Joel ordered a pitcher of beer thinking it would be a tall beer last night. He ... read more

Trujillo - Chan Chan
Published: March 2nd 2007South America » Peru » La Libertad » Trujillo » Chan ChanThe site of Chan Chan was pretty awesome. A Moche city just outside Trujillo. The whole city was built with Adobe bricks, so the locals are constantly thickening the crumbeling ruins in order to keep them in good condition (basically adding fresh adobe paste to the original brick). We spent the day looking around Chan Chan in the blistering heat and spent the night celebrating Bex´s birthday, who was feeling much better. We went to this really posh bar, which we thought would be young and trendy but was more like a rotary club! Fortunately we found a cool undergound Jazz Bar. Luckily the barMEN fell in love with Bex and her night was very cheap! A weird experience for Dom to sit and watch two guys so publically flirting with Bex but he did get ... read more
Huanchaco and the sand empire
Published: November 7th 2006South America » Peru » La Libertad » Trujillo » Chan ChanThe panamericana seems to stretch out forever along the peruvian coast, linking the dry sand lands of the south with the surf towns in the north. In the middle of this coastal band lies Lima, like the buckle of a belt, holding this diverse nation together. Although I seem to prefer small towns to the big smokes, Lima held some appeal with its coastal location, and the lovely suburb of Miraflores. In particular Miraflores has a mall (not what one goes abroad to see) that is built into a conglomerate cliff, that overlooks the Pacific ocean, and the many surfers scattered throughout the blue. We had to spend a day in Lima before progressing north to find a surf instructor and the right beach. We ended up seeing two films, and sampling two different types of ... read more
Arrive in Trujillo at 8am with the plan to see all the sights in one day. The taxi driver offers an unbeatable deal to take me to all sights and finds me a hostel which is not a brothel which is a bonus. If only the lonely planet had mentioned that in it´s description... I check in then he takes me for breakfast and he buys it!! Then a short drive through some odd local roads to La Huaca de la Luna, apparently the road is new and used to be even worse... This site has a guide included so I get to learn lots. the temple was built by the Moche people of the area and started as only one level, as they moved to new eras and ideas they would bury the old level ... read more
Hi. To everyone, I hope that when you read this that you will understand me, and understand that it is wrong to lie, because through lying you will never achieve anything good. No it’s the opposite, you only end up losing everything, like how I lost the woman that I love through lies. I was also at the point of losing my family, because when we lie it is difficult to have people begin to trust in us, or in any person who has lied. I’m telling you, I lost the woman that I love and that I’m going to love for the rest of my life. My love, it’s true love, and I’ve known this ever since she left me. Since then, my life has changed so much, and now that it is too ... read more
Like I’ve told you, in my relationship, not everything was arguments and fights, there were also many beautiful moments together, like our first trip together in Peru. But the truth is that there were moments where we argued, but it was always my fault, and now I’ll tell you why. We met three girls during a day trip to the Sierra in Cajamarca, and during this time I almost always was walking along with one of these girls. Hardly ever did I walk with my girlfriend. However the truth of the matter is that while I was walking along with that other girl, I was telling her the story of how me and my girlfriend met each other, I wasn’t walking with her because I liked her, it wasn’t like that at all. When we ... read more
