....the small town of Huacachina - a desert oasis set at the foot of some pretty spectacular sand dunes, and surrounding a small lake around which several bars, restaurants and hostals circulate around. Really cool place to hang out for a couple of days - after a little wander spent the first night chilling at the hostal supping on a couple of cocktails before we ended up getting the Charango out and having a Huacachinajam until the early hours complete with spoons, beers bottles and a host of other improvised instruments!! The next day had a swim in the pool, and a really relaxed day with a decent lunch. Couple of hours before sun set I headed out in a dune buggy which was a lot of fun - bombing around the desert up and down pretty steep and long dunes before we stopped to do a bit of sandboarding. About 10 times harder than snowboarding but a good laugh to give it a go, managed a couple of decent runs boarding, and also a couple of goes headfirst runs on my front was pretty cool....

After buggying it it bag down to the hostal, had a couple of beers at the bar before later on heading to the club that opened, kind of part of the hostal - pretty mad night, loads of locals there, im guessing from Ica and other places, we had a blast though! Funny English bloke Kev and French guy Mathieu made up our party with me and Doug - definitely a laugh!!

The next day decided to head up to the coastal town and surfing hot spot Punta Hermosa. Pretty crazy start to the journey when someone tried to rob me on the bus we boarded that was heading to Lima. He tried three or four tricks with us including spilling water, putting coins on the floor etc so to get a chance to go through my bag. Luckily caught him and chased him off the bus and nothing was taken. A little sketchy but all good. Anyway, we reached Punta Hermosa after dark and couldnt really find much happening, nor could we find an ATM, nor a hostal despite the help from two local girls who walked us from hostal to hotel trying to help us out, and so in the same evening on we went to Lima.....

Right now I am working as a journalist in La Paz,Bolivia for the English publication Bolivian Express, a monthly magazine on Bolivia, its people and its places. This blog will provide an insight into what I get up to while I'm out here for anyone who would like to know!! I can't guarantee any sort of consistency but I will try ... full info
