Surprise Birthday PartySurprise Birthday PartySurprise Birthday Party

This was her 12th birthday.
Oh my gosh, what a fabulous trek the last couple of days. But first after our last blog we were still gathering gear for our trek and all of sudden we found ourselves inviting to a birthday cake cutting and song in a little tienda (store)! We sang Happy Birthday in spanish then we were served Hot Chocolate and strawberry filled cake. Bob and I kept looking at each other wondering if we were in the right place . . . just smiling.

Our trek, what a an amazing time with Jhon and the Andes. Bobert here. la noche and tired! Well yes' what an amazing last 48 hours. We left yesterday and Tambobachy ruins at a nice low altitude of about 12.5K and went up immediately. Guess the peruvians have not learned about ¨switch backs¨_ everything the Icans taught them was UP and DOWN. We headed up trying to catch our breath but enjoying the views along the way. Jhon said that once we get up'on top there by the lake it is all flat from there on out- have i heard or said that before?¿?¿ Well all was going well in this gigantic of canyons and then the

We were in such a downpour and the wind was ripping, all I could do was look down. The belly flowers were still fabulous.
mistical Andes decided to share some weather with us' major downpour and we just had to keep walking -up of course to keep warm.. We were all asking Pachimama to give us some sol and yes eventually by the lake the skies started to let up a little. The largo-lake was beautiful and we saw swans, duck like birds and even some hawks. They seem to follow us for kilometers kind of laughing at us and daring us to try to get close for a picture. It did seem like on top of the world and especially mistical when the steam started rising up all around us! We made it over the pass- just past the spider- which was 13.8K, and embraced the downhill , at least at the beginning. >Once we were down away and felt that the rain was going to leave us alone we stopped at a creek-gourged out gully- and had a very late lunch. What a lunch' Jhon and Andrea made chicken soup with noodles and it was warm and well over due!! Boberto kept himself busy taking a kazillion pictures of all the amazing flowers- mostly minitures.

Jhon got us going again as

This spider was a beautiful brown color almost the pass we cross. It was so big.
he wanted to get us to our campsite' Huchey Qusco- acient Incan ruins. We move as best we could downhill and through a most amazing and beautifully built community only to drop right into the narrowest canyon I have been in awhile_ flowing water, flowers, mountain of rock ledges up into the sky and wooden bridges to cross. Extemely beautiful- like that - yeah my mind is really sharp right now! We did make it to the ruins and that will probably take an inperson description- Last year was amazing but this topped that- it is SO SPIRITUAL up here! Across from us was Chicon Steam from the StormSteam from the StormSteam from the Storm

This photo is after the rain storm when the sun began to peek in. I just loved watching the earth dry itself and make clouds.
they are just as bright as ever and still with a 1/3 moon, ....... then I turned around and jumped- there over the valley to the north of me was this bright light and shaped like a Puma! over the city below_ no pisco that night- so I collected myself and then did what an american husband would do- wake up the WIFE- Hey you got to see this too so someone belives me!! That she did so I´m covered. As I´ve said before Peru, Andes- are SO MYSTICAL! We use to say in the Eastern Sierra ¨Wait 5 minutes¨ and the weather will be different- well multiply that by 10 and add the Amazon in as your water feeder. the mist moves so quick and by the time Andrea got up it looked like the >Puma was running down the Valley___ Sorry you have to see it to belive it and no wonder the Incans would worship so much up above! Well did finish sleeping on the ground and up in the morning- peaceful and bearutiful' still no rain. Spent all to noon resting and pictures and hearing Jhon tell us about the ruins.
Then down, down, down to

This is a photo of Bobert and our friend Jhon. Jhon has a great respect for the mountains of Peru. He used to walk down the mountain 3000 meters to school and back!
the valley floor and then to Pisac for another late lunch. Then pack Boberto in the back of a bus with pack on top of him and back to Cusco. Raining like made since then! go figure!ç

Ok buenas noches and I¨m to bed, tomorrow the Amazon!! Guess I´ll leave my down bag here.!!ç
Take care all and best of luck to Obama manana and the world!! We will need it. Go Pache Mama!!

Isn´t this beautiful? We slept on an old Incan terrace right next to ruins that are hidden way up on a cliff. We did see stars, but in the morning the mist of clouds was everywhere.
