Porters were up at 2.30 am and as our tent was only a couple of metres from them we were awake as well. We had to get up at 3.30 as we had to be packed up and had breakfast by 4.30. The porters have to catch a train at 5.30 from the bottom of the valley. We walked down to the check point were we had to wait until 5.30 until the check point opened. There was a very large group waiting to walk. We had our head light on to start the walk. It took about an hour to get to the Sun gate where we got our first glimpse of Machu Pichu. Some of the track was very steep. One section they call the monkey climb we went up using and hands . From Sun gate we walked down to M.P which took about another 45 mins. We did a tour of the site with our guide Victor. After that James and I walked around on our own. Met up with several of the others who had done the Quarry trail. We left M.P at 1 pm and went down to M.P town . It started to rain as we left. Had some lunch and then at 4 pm caught the train back to Ollantaytambo. There we caught a bus back to Cusco. Got back to Cusco and had a shower which felt wonderful. We then went out to celebrate surviving the trek. Had my 1st Pisco sour which is the national drink. Rum, Lime juice and egg white. Had a fun evening
