Hi all,
Well, its done, walked, trekked, and am I tired....... For those who have done the Inca Trail you know what I have been through, for those who havent, well what can I say?...........Firstly, itīs not "A piece of piss" as our tour guide suggested and if you get sick (as I did) it can be very physically demanding, but you all know me, I was always gonna finish it. Day 1 was the easiest, cant remember how long we trekked for now but only a gradual climb. Day 2 was hard, it was the climb up to Dead Womans Pass (Approx 4200m above sea level) We had to walk about 10 to 15 steps and then stop to get our breath back but we got to the top in 5.5 hours and I even ran the lasty 10 steps. After 30mins at the top we headed down to the camp, that took about 2 hrs. Waiting for us was a great lunch..........I hadnt yet experienced any altitude sickness till that night............................OMG I thought i was dying.......this was definately the lowest part of the trek for me but I will spare you all the gory details....and just say that
Inca TrekTracy and I on Day 1 - Looking happy and healthy......
the 10 hours of trekking the next day was tough. By the last morning we were about 1.5 hours from the Sun Gate (Top of Machu Picchu), when we arrived there unfortunately it was cludy and we couldnt see anything but it did clear up a little (see pics)......It was yet another 1 hour all down hill to the site.......wow it was all worth it.......:)
I wont go into any more detail, those i catch up with when i get home can hear more stories......Am in Cusco at the moment, have had a free day, done some shopping and had a very relaxing massage. Heading to the Amazon Jungle tomorrow for NYE so wait for those pics (yey animals.....finally.......)
Signing off, K.
P.S no pictures taken on Day three as I was too ill to take out the camera :(
