Hello! Wow what an amazing week! Dave and I split up to see Machu Pichu, the Inka ruins, in different ways. So we now have different stories to tell! We are learning lots about the ancient civilizations in Peru and other regions through the museums and our tour guides at the top of Machu Pichu. In part of our amazing journey, was an interesting visit to both our intestines, of travelers diarrhea (from local bacteria! yay!), both of which are better now. Nothing like really appreciating a nice solid bowel movement after you experience the Machu poo poo! Haha! This is what makes the adventure so much more magical. Appreciating the small things....like everyday things. Much love from Peru! Enjoy the pics! T I Hiked the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu, a grueling 5 day, 87 ... read more

Hola Amigos! Everyday gets better and better. We´ve learned our way around the main areas of Cusco which is very helpful. For the first week we visited a lot of museums and churches in Cusco. With the Inca history, everything has been very interesting (as well as very old). The arcitechture of the city is amazing. We´ve been eating well. I had my first fresh mango yesterday and it will not be the last. All the fruit here is so fresh and delicious. We learned how to make a classic Peruvian dish, lomo saltado. It´s made up of rice, beef, fried potatoes and lots of vegetables. Very filling. Rob & I found a trail up the mountain behind our house and are excited to go back. It´s very peaceful there. Beautiful views of the city and ... read more

Peruvians really know how to party. Mostly, they just like to party. Especially in Cusco; where every age is involved; on the streets, in a club, in your house, in one bottle or in many cups. The dancing and the toasts must never stop; not until the morning sun calls everyone back to their working reality. Even then, it is possible that the party may continue for another day. ... read more

Hola! This week we are going to tour the Cusco area and see all the "tourist" things. We also have salsa lessons everyday for two hours. We're all looking forward to those. We'll start volunteering next week, mainly in the afternoons with children in an after school program. As I posted earlier there is the opportunity to work in a school that is environmentally based with gardening, farming and conservation classes that I'm excited to start working on as well, that will be in the mornings. This is kind of a quick entry, but I wanted to get some pictures up! Enjoy! Hasta luego, Jennifer... read more

More photos of the Fairplay school and around Cusco. We also went on a day trip to a salinero, or salt mine, and to the ruins at Moray. At the salinero, there is a salt water stream that comes from the mountain. They collect the water in little square pools and allow it to evaporate. From the dry pools they harvest the salt. The ruins at Moray are about 500 years old. It is made up of many round terraces about 5 feet high. They were part of an agricultural experiment where they would grow crops on each of the different terraces. Each terrace had a particular soil and temperature. Now it's just a tourist hotspot. This week we have practice Spanish "lessons" where we go around to the various museums with the profesoras. They will ... read more

We’re now around a quarter of the way through our travels and so far so good – no wild scams or dodgy tummies, lovely hostels with OK showers and beds, loads of great new friends and so many awesome memories... it’s actually hard to pick our favourite moment or place. 20 hours in Lima We caught the plane from Santiago to Lima on 13 January. We arrived around lunchtime. We had heard so many dodgy things about Lima and to tell you the truth it really made me want to hide in our hotel and not come out (plus we had cable TV with movies in English!). We enquired about catching a bus to the city from our hostel and were told it would take over an hour and three bus changes... maybe not! In the ... read more

Greetings friends and fam, Yesterday was our first full day in Cusco and it was unreal. The city is very colorful and vibrant. We live on the outskirts of the city, in the hills. We have a beautiful view of the city and the mountains from our rooms and roof. We start everyday with breakfast, usually composed of bread & jelly with avacados and eggs. It's delicious. Lunch, if we eat with our family, is always started with a bowl of soup, followed by rice, chicken and a vegetable. Again, always very good. Dinner is usually the same as lunch so we're starting to eat one meal out. Meals are very cheap here. We can get a meal at the market for 3 or 4 soles, which is like a $1.50 US. If we decide to ... read more

As I write its raining again. Its been doing a lot of that for the last week so much so that I've invested in a blue plastic poncho very fetching and a snip at £3, but then it is the rainy season so I suppose I've got to put up with it. Despite the weather I've had a great time in Cuzco. It is, so my guide book tells me, the oldest continually inhabited city in he Americas. Some of the back streets are still lined with walls put up by the Incas. Its mainly the centre around the Plaza de Armas and the alleys leading off it that are of interest the further you move out the more grotty it becomes. After a few days here I booked a trip up to the famous lost ... read more

Hola! We´ve made it safely. At least Nic, Robbie and I have. We´re still waiting on Zach & Tony. We traveled around 30 hours in total. Our 12 hour layover in Miami was very nice. Super hot, but we spent it with Nic´s sister and on South Beach, so no complaints. We had awesome Colombian food for lunch and debated just staying there until June but decided to continue on to Peru. I definitely want to spend more time there someday. Lima was nice, it was more European that I thought it would be. Also more diverse than I expected. We had a 4 hour layover there and finally got a flight to Cusco on Peruvian Airlines which was by far the best plane ride of the trip. After arriving in Cusco we went to meet ... read more
