And so back to the hotel in Cusco, this time with a balcony overlooking the street. Noisy but more interesting while on my own. With no idea what to do for two whole days on my own I set off first to find a supermarket. After two days in hospital hooked up to a drip, no way was I risking my poor digestive system with anything other than 'safe' foods. I was soon stocked up with pringles, brazil nuts, bread, jam, biscuits and the like and plonked myself in the main square to do a spot of people watching.
The sun was really hot but there were only about 3 benches in the shade and the grass police were out in force blowing their whistles at anyone who had the affrontory to try and sit on the grass in the shade! So I sat in the seat NEXT to the seat in the shade to wait for the shade hoggers to move. Being on my own I attracted a couple of seat sharers who wanted to chat. And being me, as always, I seemed to attract either the ancient or the young - guys of course!! The first one spoke
NO English but we worked out between us each others names and that he was 79! He also had two eyes, I know this cos he kept pointing at them to make sure I was aware of this fact OR maybe he was telling me about his cataracts OR maybe he was saying menacingly - I'll be watching you, you evil harlot! He then moved to telling ensuring I realised he had a stomach. I put two and two together and offered him some of my food. He pocketed a roll and started tucking into a pear!
At this point a shade bench became vacant so I said good-bye to the 79 year old, 2 eyed, stomach owner and claimed my spot! No whistle, so it obviously wasn't a prearranged kind of a thing either! My next customer was a young guy in a dayglo orange T shirt who had about 3 sentences of English to my three of Spanish. I didn't get to try mine out as I wasn't in need of tea with milk, water without gas or a toilet! After using his one chat up line 3 times over, did I like Cusco, he fell silent
for a bit. I meantime was busy with my camera trying to get arty shots with the camera held down low with tiny cathedral in background and waiting for the foreground to be filled by interesting passers by. I'd got a great one of a school boy running past and his friends watching in the background so I decided I might as well make use of this love lorn orange boy and got him to walk past in shot. I couldn't get him to run, too cool for school. At one point his friends walked by an were obviously teasing him. I reckon he has a thing for foreign girls and probably wants to get whisked off to the UK by some rich older woman. Oh dear, picked the wrong one today haha.
Feeling knackered and still not completely well, I decided to head back to the hotel for an early night, but instead ended up watching a couple of crappy films on TV thousand channels instead.
