We have now been in Cusco since Wednesday afternoon. What a change in temperature! We went from soo hot and humid to very very very cold. We immediately bought mittens and hats and plan to buy more! haha....

Cusco though is a very beautiful mountain city. We are staying at a hostel which has amazing views of the city and surrounding mountains - very nice scenery for a morning cup of Coca Tea. The city is full of tourists but the locals are very helpful. We have met many travellers from various parts of the world and shared experiences and stories about traveling to the next destination.

So far our days have been full of trying to organize our itinerary from here. Transportation is difficult to coordinate in Peru and it is proving challenging to chart an efficient route to each destination we wish to visit. We spent most of today sitting in either the train station, bus station or bank waiting for our turn.

We had our dinner tonight at Jack´s, a popular restaurant in the San Blas neighborhood of Cusco. It was recommended highly to us and to our surprise we met Kevin Wall - a former student of Mom´s and a high school classmate of Laura´s. It was great to talk to someone familiar and learn some helpful tips from someone who is currently living here. Hopefully we will met up with Kevin again.

We are looking forward to our visit to Machu Picchu on Sunday. As our trip plans fall into place we will do our best to keep you all updated! Thank you for all the kind messages and it is GREAT to hear from you!

We´ll write soon....if we can get internet acces.

Love to you all...

Reliving Peru through your eyes...
Hi L/A, Trip sounds wonderful...brings back great memories of my Peru trip some 30+ years ago. Went to the same places...Iquitos, where the kids learn to swim before they walk, Cusco, where I also bumped into a guy (whose name I was give in Toronto to call) and there he was.. right in the market. I had to ask him a lot of questions before I would believe it was really the person I was suspost to look up...he took us to great places. Then, on to Machu Picchu, where I stayed overnight!! Lima is also beautiful where we met some really lovely people who lived in Mila Flores. But also...there was an attempt on the President's life...he was shot but not killed...yikes!! Do they still have the taxi cabs that 'collect' people on the streets and you just jump in with everyone else and pay as you go?? If you have not been to Lima...then try to find a wonderful "little" museum where they have special rooms showing...medical procedures like craniotomies and C-sections for baby deliveries etc. carved in their pottery...and we think we discovered this stuff in our era!! If you get there be sure to visit "every" room...especially the erotic room...all carved on pottery!!! The beach at Lime is beautiful... I remember driving through some big hills on the outskirts of the city, and wow...there was the beach with a huge sunset!! I just happened to have purchased some 'rose tinted sun glasses' at the market so I must say it was the best sunset (albeit enhanced) I have ever seen. Continue to have fun and be sure to look for that museum right in the heart of Lima!! Cheers, Aunt Jan
