Hi everyone,
This is Ve writing as Nat is out of commision. She´s feeling better but isn´t doing much other then sleeping.
We arrived here at Huaran yesterday afternoon. We drove in from Cuzco and it was by far the most amazing drive ever. The winding road accompanied by the sight of the mountains was breath taking. As a matter of fact it knocked us both out for half of the drive as a result of the high altitude.
We are staying at a place called the Green House in Huaran by Calca. This B + B is great. They have breakfast and dinner and the hosts are very friendly. They speak English so that makes communication a lot easier. They have an amazing view of the mountains in the dining room. I´ve uploaded a few pics for your viewing pleasure.
It is very different here compared to Lima and Barranco. In Barranco there was nothing but honking from drivers. We hear nothing but sounds from the dogs (they have three dogs here), crickets and birds. It is very peaceful here. The guests are nice and most people do their own thing during the day but in the evenings everybody congregates in the common area. By the way the names of the dogs are Laika, Paca, Yana. The are all over the place and each have their own dog house outdoors.
While driving here we passed by quite a few villages. The roads were unpaved and bumpy. The locals were selling their goods on the roadside and the homes were very tiny and run-down. It was definitely a contrast from Lima where there were some massive colonial mansions and gated communities. In Lima there were alos quite a bit of condos especially in Mira Flores. Along the road side we also encountered the local wildlife, goats, llamas, guinea pigs and dogs. It seems like everyone lets out their dogs around here like we do with our cats at home.
Our plan tomorrow is to head off to Pisac for the Sunday market. It all depends on how Nat is feeling. Today I´m taking a walk down to the local market and maybe to the river.
O.K time to get off the computer.
Hasta Luego,
Ve and Nat
P.S we´ll upload more pics on Monday
