Itīs always exciting to be able to change the country and region Iīm in on travelblog, lol, yes it just completes my day.
Gawwd I like just got off a 10 hr bus ride from Cusco to Arequipa where I am now. The hostal has TWO computers with FREE internet access, so thatīs quite beautiful to me. I guess Cusco is more touristy bc I had to go to a cafe and pay when I was there. So Arequipa is supposed to have a canyon that is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon so I hope we go. It seems like u can do a bunch of outdoorsy things. I have never goen white water rafting but i dont think we have time for that since we leave tomorrow at 4 pm to go cross the border into Chile.
Itīs 7 am, an hr earlier than Boston, Baltimore and Santiago. Wow I have a lot of homes lol. If I want to say I want to go back home, which one would it be? lol I guess Iīm lucky then bc some people dont even have a place that they identify wth anymore. God am I really gonna get all poet y at 7 in the morning. Okay I remember at nerd camp, the first summer when I took an expository essay class, where we wrote personal essays-which actually made me like the English language and writing- there was one girl in the class who was from Belgium(this camp was like college to me.. so many international students, a college campus, living in dorms, learning a lot in and outside the classroom). And this girl had lived all over the world, Korea, Europe, States...but she still couldnīt identify with one place, not even the States where her family was from. So I am lucky I guess...
My dearest Amy ni leaves today wahhhh, oh gosh itīs september 11, there are going to be mad riots and protests outside La Moneda today in Santiago, too bad Im missing that, not its supposed to be hella dangerous. September 11, 1973 was the day the military dictatorship took over in Chile, when General Pinochet bombed La Moneda and the sitting President Salvador Allende, the first democratically elected Marxist in the world, committed suicide in La Moneda, the government palace. And of course, Sept 11 means something else to us, so I am going to be thinking about the States today too. I CANNOT believe it has been 7 years. My grandpa who lives in Chinatown was just in the WTC before the planes hit it. I identify closely with NYC, even though I dont really remember the time I lived there. So that would be why I support nyc teams....hehehe Oh gosh so on Sept 11, yes everyone remmebers where they were, I was in history class. 8th grade had just started and my us history teacher, ms. coleman, had been telling us that every day we are making history and that history is not to be forgotten. Well then Sept 11 happens, and she is the one ewho breaks the news to us early in the morning, perhaps 2nd period. I was sitting next to my long time friend Marc, who for some reason, I always sat next to every year in Social Studies, and in high school senior year, I guess we didnt talk anymore after the end of the year. It was just crazy!! Then lunch happened, people were sobbing, and we were finally let go to go home. I watched the news, nobody knew who had done it, i talked to my mom on the phone, I was just confused.. knew nothing about terrorism, the Middle East, IR any of that... Wow in 8th grade I was really naive.
Okay this blog has turned more into rants from angela instead of trip stuff, so I will post again after an exciting fun filled day in Arequipa! Gosh I dont know if Im tired or not, and I hope that my stomach doesnt act up today...
