Our Hostel!
Our apologies to anyone who thought we had disappeared over the last few weeks!

Lima was a really pleasant city, with a great boardwalk along the side of the ocean with restaurants, shops and entertainment a plenty. In a post Oscars impulse, we ended up going to the cinema to see the Artist the following day which was great because we didn’t need to worry about any dodgy Spanish dubbing, a very nice change!

From Lima we were heading north and although we were very ready to get to a beach we had one final city to visit. Trujillo in the North of Peru was in itself not the prettiest town, but it is rightly famous for its pastries and cakes and there are few better things than playing cards in a sunny café with a towering lemon meringue pie, at least we can’t think of many. As a quick day trip we visited some Pre Inca ruins a few miles outside the town. Although what we have heard people refer to as ruins fatigue was slowly setting in, it was interesting to see the remains of a different culture and a 5 story temple built over 2,500 years

Sunset on the beach
ago was worth the visit.

After bragging about my guitar Hero prowess, it would be poor form of me not to mention that Emma won the 10 Sol (around $3) casino challenge while we were in Trujillo as well, walking away with a healthy profit against my 10 Sol loss… No surprises there!

At last we arrived at the beaches and although sunbathing, eating fresh, sugared churros (straight doughnuts) and playing in the waves doesn’t make for very exiting stories we had a great time doing nothing but burning/tanning and catching up on some reading.

With our time disappearing, and another country to see, we reluctantly said goodbye to Peru and headed off to Ecuador where I intend to eat and drink my own bodyweight in their famous fruits!

Our first visit is to Guayaquil, a large modern city with a park full of Iguanas! Will let you know if either of us get eaten next week.

Speak to you soon
