Guayaquil, Salinas y Montanita

Salut tout le monde!!! Ca fait un petit bout! Je suis arrive ici a Guayaquil la semaine derniere (Mercredi) sur un avion en provenance de Quito. Je reste ici chez mon ami Andres et sa blonde Paula (avec qui j'ai reste a Bogota en Colombie) est aussi ici pour quelques semaines.

Guayaquil est la plus grosse ville du pays. Je pense qu'il y a environ 4 million de personnes ici mais tuez moi pas svp si j'ai tort. La premiere journee que je suis arrivee nous sommes alles visiter le Malecon 2000. C'est une espece de promenade en bois qui longe une des rivieres dans la ville et il y a pleins de petits restaurants, magasins, un cinema IMAX, etc. Aussi nous avions visite le Parque Historico. C'est un espece de parc qui montre plein d'animaux et a la fin ils ont reconstruit le Guayaquil de l'annee 1901.

Quoi d'autre??? Ah oui... nous sommes alles au club de golf la semaine passee pour frapper une couple de balles. Pour ceux qui me connaissent, ils savent que je suis pourris au golf, mais j'ai quand meme bien joue!!! Apres ca, nous nous sommes tires a la piscine parce qu'ici, il fait chaud... Pas chaud comme a la cote en Colombie mais chaud (30 degres plus l'humidite).

La fin de semaine passee nous avons voyages jusqu'au plages de Salinas y Montanita. La plage de Salinas est super belle et il n'y avait pas beaucoup de monde parce qu'ici en Equateur ce ne sont pas les vacances d'etes. Les vacances d'ete semblent etre du mois de Janvier au mois de Mars. Nous nous sommes baignes et nous avons manges un petit lunch de fruits de mer en apres midi. Anecdote comique: Pendant qu'on mangeait, un itinerant est venu laver le pare-brise du char a Andres. En le lavant, il a casse l'essui-glace. Il s'est enfui a la course mais il est revenu quelques seconde plus tard... POUR QUETER DU CASH!!!! On aurait du lui queter du cash a lui pour reparer l'essui-glace. Une chance qu'il ne pleuvait pas!!!

Montanita est un petit village de surf ou presque tout le monde a des dreads. La musique joue tout le temps... fort!!! S'il fallait que je vous donne un conseil pour cette place... Trouvez vous une auberge qui n'est pas sur la rue principale. Nous sommes restes chez Mama Cucha de l'autre bord d'une riviere et nous entendions super bien la musique jusqu'a 8 heures du matin!!!

Bon bon maintenant je suis de retour a Guayaquil mais demain je m'en vas!!! AUX GALAPAGOS!!

Hey everyone! It's been a while! I arrived here in Guayaquil last Wednesday and I am staying at my good friend Andres' house and his girlfriend Paula (whom I stayed with in Bogota) is also here!

Guayaquil is Ecuador's biggest city. It is a bit like the Toronto of Canada (except not everyone hates Guayaquil). It is the financial capital of the country and has about 4 million people (if I am not mistaken). The first day I was here we visited probably the main tourist attraction: the Malecon 2000. It is a long wooden boardwalk along the downtown waterfront. It is really nice and there is also a refreshing breeze blowing from the river. We walked to the Las Penas neighbourhood where you can climb almost 500 steps to the top of a hill and look at the view: which is exactly what we did! Before that we also went to this historical park which is really cool because they have some really cool animals but also a reconstruction of Guayaquil in 1901.

The next day we went to hit some golf balls at the country club. For all of you who are familiar with my golf skills, which are pretty bad... i actually did pretty well! After that I jumped in the pool because it is hot and humid here!

Last week-end all three of us went on a beach trip to Salinas and Montanita. We drove up to Salinas and chilled at the beach. The weather was perfect for the beach and there was almost nobody there. As I later learned, kids are still in school now. There summer break is from January to March and that's when everyone goes to the beach. Too bad for them. We had lunch in Salinas and after drove to Montanita. Montanita kind of distantly ressembles Taganga in Colombia. It is a surfing town (which Taganga is not) and almost everyone has dreads there. If I could give you a bit of advice if you are heading to Montanita. DO NOT stay in the city. We were lucky and stayed about 200 metres away but still we could clearly here the music until 8am. I can only imagine what is what like for people staying in Montanita proper.
