Two weekends ago a few friends and myself decided to go the closest national park to Cuenca. It is called Cajas National Park. The highest point in Cajas is at about 12,000 feet. Although we did not go that high, we were able to enjoy a beautiful four hour hike through small forests, around lakes and across some very soggy ground.

Every five minutes of hiking there was a different kind of landscape. It was amazing.

This is what you walk around on through a lot of Cajas. I have never seen anything like it before, but it is very soggy and you have to watch your step.

We were walking and talking and all of a sudden half of her leg was gone. We were a little more cautious after that.
