Oh dear i´ve only just started this blog and i suck already- one entry and no photos... at least it means im not bored!
EVENTUALLY arrived in Quito on sunday after many American Airlines related problems, getting seriously pissed off, frustrated and thinking i would never get here!
already thursday night... i´ll try to compact some news...
many of the surroundings feel familiar... latin-american spanish accents, reggetton and salsa music, car alarms thru the night, crazy bus drivers, mouth-watering fruit, stares, blantant divides between rich and poor.. but there are also considerable diffenences... ALTITUDE! (=cold at night, my lack of warm clothing supplies, feeling knaccered after climbing the stairs, feeling slightly tipsy without drinking...), the surrounding snowy peaks of the volcanoes that surround the city, inc two of the highest in the world... also different being with a large group of brit in this environment and kind of being responsable for them.
what have i been doing u may ask... apart from resting my ankle...
cable car up to 4,200m and a brief knaccering stroll at the top
salsa lesson (LOVEd it!!!)
gorgeous seriously hot springs surrounded by green mist covered-mountains
visiting NGOs inc Accion Ecologica who me and Guy did some translating for. AE loved it and this morning gave us a 14(!!) page document to get to work on and said they´d like some more help from back in the UK!! Their work is focused on resistence to oil development and aggression in Ecuador and the world inc protection of Indigenous ppl and the environment. see www.oilwatch.org for a bit more info.
Really should go, keep in touch
