Shell
This plane in Shell's central park is like that flown by Nate Saint of "Point of the Spear" Shell Ecuador.
If the name is not familiar, then "Through Gates of Splendor" or perhaps "The Point of the Spear" might ring a bell. This is the home of the airstrip where Nate Saint, Jim Elliott, and the others flew that fateful day into the jungle. Shell has an amazing story in her past for sure but an equally beautiful story is unfolding even today on the edge of town. While the missionaries of yesteryear lost their lives in the jungle, in a brightly colored green and orange building a number of lives are being rescued. Unwanted children who would likely have been left to die or fend for themselves in the jungle have been taken in and loved by some dear angels in Shell. Sandra and I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with a number of the smallest children. Christopher Hitchens wrote a book "God is not Good; How religion poisons everything". One hour in Shell reveals his deep ignorance and blind and ugly prejudice. There is a light here (and many of the places that we have been) that Hitchens neither knows nor could understand if he saw it. Praise God for the groundwork laid
