Wauw.. Iīve never been to the jungle and I mist say that this whole jungle trip has been amazing.. Just the diversity of the jungle and the activities.., amazing..
Fridaynight Niek, Steffen, Thibaut and I left the capital of Quito, which is a cold place during the night, to go to the Jungle, Primary jungle that is..
After an 7 hour busdrive we arrived in Lago Agrio, just a city, of course you can hardly compare it with Quito. Lago Agrio is really risen from the gutter.. with some modernhouses which are supposed to be like 5 floors high, but just has one: might be because of a lack of finance or they just didnīt feel like building more and strangely enough I think itīs the second reason because there is no house to be found to which you can say that itīs finished.. There is just 1 park which is actually really beautiful and well-maintained.. Probably a gift from the Oil-companies around here..
When we finished having breakfast we got in our bus and headed for the Cuyabeno reserve. Despite the busdrive taking another 3 hours, I didnīt loose my good temper: there was enough to see. (and we already saw a token when we were in the bus). Coming out of the bus we changed to a rivercanoe which brought as to the campsite, which was antother 2 hours downstream. Basically at this point of the trip we were in the middle of nowhere without any posibility to call the civilised world.
Like itīs supposed to be it occasionally rained in the jungle, but the weather can really change within a second, however, by then you are already totally wet or like us you are fortunate to have a poncho with you.. We were extremely happy with our ponchoīs when we were piranha-fishing, because at that time a heavy downpour was starting to hunt us. After having fished some piranhas, freaking creatures, we were happy to go back to the camp and find ourselves another good meall, the food was amazing, everything well prepared and delicious. Niek and I shared a room and when going to bed we first checked our beds for 15 minutes, putting the clamboe over the bed, so that no musquito or cockroach could enter.. Then every morning I took a shower which was of course extremely cold but after the shower you have like 10 minutes in which you feel clean, because after that I put on my repilent, because musquita bites (itīs the female musquito who bites) are worse than stinking of the repilent.
Besides seeing many kinds of plants and other vegetation and eating a plant which is supposed to whiten oneīs teeth, there are a lot of animals too.. Iīve seen monkeyīs: kapuchin (kapusijnerapen) , (wolapen) and other animals like: sloths, wild turkeyīs, caiman (alligator), carrot, tokens and other birds, piranhaīs, etc etc.. Really amazing..
Whatīs more, weīve played soccer with come indigenous people, we went to see a sjaman who told us somethings about sjamanism, kind of special actually, I swam in the river in spite of knowing that there are a lot of freaks of life in the river like: an animal that enters the body through the penis and piranhas, etc...
All in all, I canīt explain what Iīve seen or experienced and I recommend everybody to visit the amazone! Iīm already thinking about going to Belem, Brazil and visiting the amazone from the other site..:P Well, now Iīm waiting with a guy from Israel and Niek to go to Quito, Thibaut and Steffen are going for a day to Tena, but Iīd like to go to school tomorrow, doing something with my Spanish and I might go to Mindo Friday and Saterday, anyway enough things to look forward to.
Hasta pronto amigos!
p.s. Iīve been talking to Lars last week and he might have a spare cable for my camera so that I can put on the pictures, that would be really convenient.. So I hope when I meet him tomorrow or later that I can manage to get the cable and put some Jungle pictures on this page!
