Bogota. A little different than the rest of Colombia that I have grown so fond of, but nevertheless a must see on the tourist train. Although Bogota is cold, dirty, bum infested, and cold (did i mention that??), I actually liked the place. Full of awesome museums (I´m not the museum type either...) and bums, yet it does have its charm.
Sundays in Bogota are pretty special. They shut down most of the buses and leave a ton of the streets only open to walkers and bikers. Also all the museums are free entry. The gold wear picture I posted is just one of many I took. The museum is top-notch and super interesting. The largest gold collection in the world, some 42,000 pieces of gold.
The border crossing into Ecuador was fun. A border crossing in Latin America never truly is easy, but this one was the worse (and I have had some bad ones..). Apparently the professors from Colombia AND the professors from Ecuador decided to have a demonstration (riot) on the border to try and get higher salaries. Cool. So John and I had to walk through massive hoards of angry teachers and ¨Robo Cops¨in full
riot gear. Awesome. Aside from the riot this border would have been simple! Side note, leaving the Cocaine capital of the world and none of our bags were searched once. In fact the only border that did search our bags (really thoroughly too HA) was between Panama and Costa Rica. Weird.
Before going through the insane border we visited el Santuario de las lajas, a amazing church build over a river about 15 minutes from the border. Pics dont do it justice... Beautiful. So after a 22 hour curvy bus ride from Bogota to the border and another 6 hours in Ecuador, we made it to Quito.

Always good to see your smiling face. Church looks incredible. stay safe. xoxo
My girlfriend and I just returned from Bogota and I blogged about it being the cocaine capital of the world. I read that you used the same phrase. I had a number of Colombians email me stating that Colombia isn't the cocaine capital of the world (which, of course, it is) and they were very upset with me. Have you received the same emails?
