To say that we were worried about Colombia would have been an understatement.......Well that was true for the first 6 months or so anyway. Then we started to hear really good reports from lots of other fellow travellers, all of a sudden we were really looking forward to this leg of the trip. We weren't disappointed either, Colombia is one of the most beautiful South American countries that we have travelled through, period! Although it was another whistlestop visit, most of the time taken up travelling on buses.....(NOTHING NEW THERE THEN!) We felt really quite safe....Oh, apart from the totally crazy bus drivers here, speed isn't the word, they're speed demons and think nothing of overtaking truck after truck on blind hairpin bends on mountain roads, and, they've also got a tendency to do more than twice the speed limit in residential areas!!
I managed to drag Mark to a church that was built onto a bridge, it was a gorgeous sight (we particularly like the tonne of scaffolding attached to the side!!!). We have found the Columbian people to be incredibly friendly in some places & not so friendly in others, although we have never felt threatened. We have been
spoken to in a hostile manner by some who thought we were American (we attributed this to Mark's cowboy hat!). We really wish we could have spent longer here.
We only have one day left so we will see you all soon in the world where people have to go to work & not have year long holidays!!!!!!! Mark has really enjoyed doing this (I have contributed very little) & we hope we haven't bored you too much (or rubbed in the fact that WE HAVE BEEN ON HOLIDAY FOR ONE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!). Lots of love, look forward to catching up, mark & jo xxxxxxxxx
