Caranaval time

Wow, how the latinos love to party !!!!!

What started out as a tranqiul day taking fotos around the seaside town of Santa Marta on my way to the national park led me to the street celebrations & fiestas that is carnaval here in Colombia. This maybe is not as famous as its bigger cousin in brasil where I wanted to be but nevertheless completely loco or crazy. I know am starting to understand after only about five days in Colombia why other people at times have rearranged the letters of this country to spell ´LOCOCOMBIA´ . I had a preconception that this carnaval would be a procession of dancing , costumes and celebrations of all things colombian but afterwards all hell brakes loose and it is custom here to spray water, flour and aersol foam spray at every single person, float or car that passes by along the carnaval route here along the massive sea front.

I decide to hitch a life on the back of one of the trucks that is driving slowly trough the crowds with some other colombians enjoying the celebrations and getting ready to counter attack with rice and water and flour against the people in the street of all ages. Maybe it is because I am wearing my argentine football shirt that I get absolutley soaking wet and filthy but suffice to say I had a cracking time and took some brilliant snaps of all the action and managed to save my camera from any long term damage in the process.

I spend the evening winding down and relaxing with a few Aguila cervezas with a few guys from Bogota who have much clearer sounding spanish than the costenos or people who live here on the coast in Colombia and putting the end to a thouroughly great day....
