Stepping off the plane to Leticia I remembered that actually I wasn't quite saying farewell to Columbia yet and that we had just entered the gateway into the Amazon, and 150% humidity. God was it hot and sticky; it was the sort of humidity that meant you were wetter when you got out of the shower than when you were in it. The next couple of days were spent preparing ourselves for the journey ahead, buying supplies (Vodka, Munchies, Oh yeah and what would be our bed for the next 4 nights a hammock!)
The pousada (that's a guest house) where we were staying was home from home and the owner Renee told us to treat the place like home and that we could use the 2 bikes. Only problem was that there was 3 of us, not a problem we thought that one of us could give the other a backie. Renee protested that the bikes couldn't with stand the weight. As you can see by the pictures we didn't let that stop us. How funny......I was crying for days about our journey into town. The girls decided that Phoebe who was sat on the front bar would steer

and Sarah sat on the back of the seat would pedal. Only in South America would this journey have been allowed to continue when we were driving down the high street, through traffic lights and past a bunch of cops sat on the corner watching in amazement at the stupidity of the gringo's. They weren't even bothered when the girls both fell off and were lay in the middle of the road, the cops did slow down to manouevere past them but that's only because it would be bad inter country relations to run over 2 gringo's already dis armed on the floor.
Leticia was quite a cool little place but having already visited the jungle there wasn't much to offer other than a gateway to the next chapter of our journey - The Amazon river boat.
LeticiaHow to fall off a bike - The practice had paid off, a bit safer than when they fell off on the high street.

AMAZON ALERT "Keep your fingers and toes inside the boat at all times"
I know it gets old but it is Colombia Not Columbia. And yes it matters how you spell it. It is a very usual mistake. Trust me. Look at your passport entry or exit and you'll see stamp or just the title of your entry.
Happy travels!!!
