Well here I go on another adventure. First stop Columbia for 2 days.
What can I say but "Wow, what a surprise!" Everyone I have met has been wonderful. I stayed with my friend, Steven's family. They were all wonderful. They showed me the city and were very hospitalible. I went out on my first night to a bar in Columbia with Steven's friend Jenni. She and her friends were great. Unfortunately I was so tired so I struggled but I did manage to stay out until 3.30am. It was great. Everyone danced. Salsa, samba, merangue and other dances I don't know the name. People tried to teach me but I definitely couldn't get to their level that quickly even though they were all nice enough to say that I had the right hip movements. Bellydancing is obviously paying off somewhere.
Day 2 led me to a town 2 hours out of Bogota called Arbelaez. This weekend is a public holiday for Columbia to celebrate independence so there was a horse thing on and a fiesta during the evening. I met lot's more of Steven's family who again were extremely friendly and looked after me well, even with the language
barrier. I really like the sense of family here. It made me miss home quite a bit. It was a bit difficult though trying to explain to people that being a vegetarian meant not eating meat which includes not picking it out of the food you're being served. I think if I stayed in Columbia to long I would of been extremely thin by the end. hmmm, maybe I should go back. Again it was a late night but worth it. The fiesta was amazing. it is a huge party in the middle ofthe town. A band and everyone dances. I drank a lot of cerveza and danced all night. Steven´s family worked on trying to teach me more to dance. I think I´m getting the hang of it but the dancing here is amazing. I´ve decided that I was definitely born on the wrong continent or at least living in the wrong country. But we staggered home at 3.30am and a couple of hours sleep I was up again to catch a bus to Bogota.
next stop was the airport then a plane to Guatemala. Busy, busy days.
