C: We arrived into Santiago quite late in the evening after a 12 hour bus drive from Pucon. Not a fun way to spend the day but the rest of the world could definitely learn something from the South Americans about comfortable buses, great reclining seats and loads of space. We got to our Airbnb which is a cute little duplex apartment on the 12th floor of a huge building right in the centre of the city, great location. The next morning we headed off to explore central Santiago. There isn't masses of sights but it's a nice city to wander around in, clean and smart, and pretty much everything is in walking distance. We found a very sweet district called Barrio Paris y Londres which is basically just two streets named after those cities. Lots ... read more

Our bodies had been telling us they needed a rest for quite a while now, so instead of pushing ourselves ever onwards we did the sensible thing (I know, unusual for us!) and booked a week of R&R at the seaside. We were both so ready for it. Unfortunately, there was one last price to pay and that was getting up at 4.30 am for a 6.00 am ride to the airport. We breathed a sigh of relief when the transport arrived to collect us on time (it's a bit critical when you have a plane to catch) but then our minibus driver spent a further 45 minutes riding around the still-asleep town of San Pedro trying to locate the last person on his list. We had to admire his tenacity; very few of the streets ... read more

Woke up in the middle of the night with the d&v bug-was awful but hoped it would be over by the time we had to make our long trip to lima! Unfortunately not!we got a carriage down the hill we had stayed on in valparaiso and then the cable bus to the station! The bus to Santiago cost £3 each so was a bargain! Unfortunately was sick on the bus and in a bin outside the bus station-not my finest moment! We then got another bus to the airport and got checked in to our flight! The worst moment of my day was projectile vomiting in duty free in front of a lot of people!the flight was delayed by 2 hrs as there was a massive power cut in santiago so got into lima a bit ... read more

Didn't sleep too well so last thing we both wanted to do was start a wine tour at 9am! Alas-had a good breakfast and were picked up by josi (our driver for the winetour) just before 9am! The first stop was at Casas del Bosque which give us a good introduction to the wine making process and allowed us to see how wines were stored in large barrels whilst maturing!we got to try 5 different wines before being whisked away to the next winery-Emiliana. At Emiliana, they explained how the organic process made wines healthy and more flavoursome! It was very interesting as it being an organic winery-they had to use the natural processes a lot more and used chickens to keep away the insects! We get to taste 4 wines accompanied by cheese! We also bought ... read more

Geo: -33.0206, -71.5548Paula Kay booked a transfer from the hotel to the cruise ship terminal for us before we left home. It is about 120 kilometers from Santiago to Valparaiso on the coast. The driver was scheduled to start picking up passengers at 11:00 then drive to the port arriving within three hours. On the evening before we were to go, we received a note from Grayline, the tour company we used for all three trips in Santiago, that we would be picked up at 10:30. We were checked out and ready to go on time, and they arrived to pick us up fairly quickly. As it turned out, we were the first stop of six that the van made before filling up and heading out of the city. We were in the shuttle van for ... read more

Geo: -35.6751, -71.543On wednesday 30th of december, Alex and I arrived at 7 PM with our nightbus to Valparaiso. We first wanted to drop off our staff at the hostel so we took a taxi there. Outside of the Licanantay hostel were already waiting Maria and (?) who live at the moment in La Paz in Bolivia (Maria is originally from Nicaragua but grew up in Canada and X is from Spai ) and a bit later we were joined by Oscar from Wajaki in Ecuador. The hostel wasn't open yet and nobody inside seemed to be awake (WTF?!) so Oscar was playing his guitar and trying to wake them. Even though we had to wait more than 1h outside, it was fun and we got to know each other. After freshing up, Maria, Oscar, Alex and ... read more
