Well Lonely Planet has let me down on Santiago. Supposedly very smoggy and yuk, Santiago has been a pleasure. It is quite cold though, which is an interesting change. We are staying in an old mansion converted into a hostel. It is gorgeous. You can see the snow topped Andes from everywhere in the city (if the fog allows) so that is awesome. Unfortunately I still havent mastered Spanish and am seriously contemplating pretending that I am deaf and mute. No hablo espanol has become my catchphrase.... The language barrier has no bearing on the weird food they serve in Chile [View Full Entry]

At Central Mercardo
At Central Mercardo
Thereīs something fishy about this market.
15.10.05 (yesterday) We went for a walk around the city. We went to the Central Mercardo which is a traditional chilean market selling food, mainly sea food which is sent to UK too. Today we went to Cerra Santa Lucia, this is a historic part of the city. It boasts gardens, fountains and a castle. We had been told not to go early in the morning, in the afternoon or at night as it can be dangerous. So we got there at about 11am, nice and safe! It was very pretty. At the top of the hill (as itīs on a [View Full Entry]

Yesterday we had our bus journey to Santiago, Chile. We were able to see the most spectacular scenery as we drove round and through the Andes. At the border, which was quite scarey in the middle of the mountains. We declared that we had fruit (apples) and they took our lush, huge apples of us!!!!!!3 of them! We were not happy!!!! Luckily we had eaten our sandwiches 5 mins before, cos they would have had them aswell! On the other side of the border you start your decent down the mountains. This involved the windiest, smallest roads on a coach ever! [View Full Entry]

South America, continent number four and the final destination before we fly home next month. We arrived in Santiago with a new found enthusiasm which had been missing since Asia. During our months spent in 'home from home' Australia and New Zealand we found that we had lost some of that feeling of adventure, but our time in Easter Island started to awakend those lost feelings and upon landing in Santiago our enthusiasm had reached new hights. It's all about making these last few weeks really memorable and going home on a high. After a good nights rest, our first priority [View Full Entry]

Neither have anything to do with this story, but I like this picture of Brian, because it is before he started rotting. In Santiago now. Ok thats the fast forward done. I call Victor the Mexican.
