Ein Land ganz nah an Argentinien aber doch so anders. Mir gefaellt Santiago viel besser. Ist nich so dreckig und auch der Verkehr ist weniger und ruhiger. Es hat wirklich Spass gemacht in der Stadt umherzulaufen und Eindruecke zu sammeln. Morgen bin ich dann erstmal 6 Tage unterwegs, keine Ahnung, wie ich da Internet habe. Aber mir gehts gut und ich geniesse meine Reise. Hier halten die Autofahrer auch an, wenn man ueber die Strasse will. Thursday 11th September Went to the train station for tickets to Arica, Chile. Cost us 7NS each. Immigration is completed at the train stations so should be relatively easy. When the train arrived it was just one carriage with it's own engine, all made of wood. Then when it set off it went down the middle of the road (like a tram). We followed the West coast for about an hour before pulling into Arica at sunset. Found a hostel for 10,000C$ (which is about 10.64 quid). Friday 12th September Went to see what Arica has to offer. This wil be our last blog from South America as we leave for New Zealand on 02nd October. It's pretty basic as we've been trying to save cash and so not really been doing much, So, here goes: Thursday 11th September Can't believe it's seven years since the Twin Towers. Well time is ticking down and I leave in 3 days. The nerves are there but I know once I get to Santiago they will be exchanged with excitement. After getting of the overnight bus from Ica we were back in familiar territory, Arequipa. We stayed one night and treated ourselves to a nice meal in an Itallian restaurant which had a blind accordian-ist as the entertainment. We tried to thank him several times as we left but because he was blind he thought we were talking to someone else so he ignored us. Hola! This blog will be a bit shorter today since I am writing on the go. Today we went to the House of Pablo Neruda, in Isla negra *he had many houses9* The architecture there is something else. Everything is designed to look like a ship. We also went to Vina del Mar, and the beach. I am in Santiago right now awaiting a trip to the North. Bariloche > Mendoza > Portillo > Santiago > Puerto Montt >Bariloche Although it wasn’t planned that I’ll be heading off to Chile before mid/end of October, plans have changed a bit thanks to Patrice and Juergen and the fact that snow in Bariloche was getting worse and worse… Last week I’ve decided to go and check out Portillo - the ski resort where guys have been working whole season.
