I am tired beyond anything that I have ever been and Iīm yet to begin the final leg of the journey to Lima, Peru - the starting point of my adventure!
But before I venture further, I must go bak to the beginning of this much hyped and highly anticipated trip....
The feeling that Iīm actually doing this ebbs and flows and it wasnīt until I peered out the window on the plane and gazed upon the sunlight sparkling on the water below that it dawned on me - I was on my way to Peru! Yes, the dazzling sight below that was "The Brown" (Brisbane River) at itīs mouth near Fishermanīs Island made me ponder, "Will I ever return to this place?"
Sure, plenty of tourtists embark on journeys of similar and even more harowing destinations and return wit tales full of fun, excitement and long desired goal realisations. Yet, lingering in the back of my mind was the possibility, however slight, that I could encounter any number of situations that would prohibit a return of yours truly.
For example, would I be seen as an ideal candidate for tribal sacrificial ceremonies? Sure, those cultures and thierpractices have eroded over the centuries but there are always those wishing to re-ignite thier customs in the name of nostalgia - and it would sell well with tourists!
Or perhaps I will be taken by the numerous drug traffikers or guerilla groups to be used as a bargaining chip for the release of their comrades in arms or for ransom money to fund their cause. I hope to avoid such scenarios by conveying to would be kidnappers that my collective worth is measured by the numerous "Star Wars" collectables & paraphenalia which, whilst highly valuable to me, is really only worth as much as any other toy manufactured in China (i.e. not much!!).
Finally - and perhaps not so bad - is that during my visit to the jungle, a tribe of Amazoniam women take me captive for their amusement and play thing. Although the green-eyed, olive skinned beauties with their long flowing dark hair having their way with me sounds pretty darn good, the realisation that whilst I may be willing, Iīm probably not able to meet their insatiable and varying needs...maybe.
But now, following an oddly tasting latte from the "Starbucks" here at Santiago Airport (Chile), I am a little more alert and the lack of sleep over the last 21 hours has temporarliy subdued the delusions and fantasies but the excitement of what is to come remains.
I now only have eight hours (originally 9) to wait until I board the plane to Lima; itsef another three and-a-half hour journey before my trip truly begins!
I will now explore the limited offerings od Santiago International Departures Lounge and take in the surrounding scenery of snow capped mountains layered with varying shades of tan and green tundra.. exciting! (insert sarcasm).
I would settle for repeat viewings of "Charlie & Boots" (Bne-Auk) or "The Proposal" (Auk-San) than endure this boredom! I may have to think about "My Sisterīs Keeper" though, that was a sad movie...
