OK. So Now I am really jealous. Now I know what us regular citizens are missing out on in the aviation world. Let me start at the beginning though.
We caught another scary taxi to the airport, and flew back to Mexico City for a night and then went to get on our plane the next day to Santiago, but found out that the plane had been overbooked. Would we consider being upgraded to business class for a flight the following day, put up in a fancy hotel and given a fancy dinner for the night in the meantime. We would also be given $800 in free LAN Chile flights to use with in the next 6 months. Mmmm... well, we did not need to think about this for very long. The only catch though was that we had to fly to Santiago, Chile, via Lima (Peru) and Buenas Aires (Argentina). This was not much of a catch when in no rush and flying in first class (technically business class, but there was no first class). It meant all the more yummy meals, free alcohol and movies. Also, travelling through 4 countries in one day is not something you do
footlooseI could practice my jazz ballet moves to footloose in this seat and the person infront would not even notice.
very often in a lifetime, and we like to have once in a lifetime type experiences.
The hotel that we stayed in was very fancy, and the restaurant made a very yummy buffet. It was a little strange though, as it was close to the airport and not in a very good neighbourhood, so it was guarded by army men with machine guns. I don´t know whether seeing this makes some people feel more secure, but it had the opposite effect on me. As soon as we were inside though, I put it out of my mind and focused on the extravagant spread of food. FREE food!
The flight the next day was soooo amazing! So much leg room, even for Jono. Real crockery and cutlery. Real coffee. Real food. Real alcohol. Fancy toilets with nice smelling pretty perfume in them that you can use. Seats so comfy that the turbulence felt like a massage. And the best thing, is that you arrive feeling clean and well slept. I felt like rich scum though, and tried to duck my head a little when all the other passengers started boarding the plane and walking past us in our comfy
A MENU!It included an awesome wine selection, a cocktail menu and three or four choices for entree, main and dessert!
fancy seats drinking our cocktails and pisco (a tasty local liquor with a sweet nasty punch.)
We spent a couple of days in Santiago chilling out in the awesome hostel that we stayed in- La Casa de Roja. It had a bar, pool and spa in the backyard. We ventured out of this comfortable bubble a few times to wander the streets and buy some supplies. We also caught up with Andre, who Jono met on his last trip to Sth America, and his girlfriend which was fun.
Wow. I think this will be one of the briefest blog entries I have done for a while!
Adios.
Jono having a crisisNot sure what to select from his own personal library of entertainment. It is a hard life in first class.
Mmmm, decisionsJam and croissant first or omlette and asparagus, or all together... and where to put the REAL coffee in the picture?
Yepdefinitely landing, or crashing... hehehe. I can joke about that now.
And off againBut first, a pisco sour! They bring you your first round of drinks before the rest of the plane even boards.
So many cute dogsand sleepy ones too. But there really are a lot of dogs in Santiago. A policeman was employed, it seemed, purely to stop dogs from shitting on the grounds infront of the presidential palace.
