Tim Eating MeatNothing like a large plate of red meat to break your vegetarianism on.
We have played around in Santiago for a while (the last 4 days) and have walked all around checking things out. Besides seeing lots of pretty sites, I broke 7 years of vegetarianism on a large plate of meat, which was quite tasty, but was also a large shift for me.
We are doing a semi good job absorbing the culture, but city life seams somewhat separated and distant; besides ordering food or purchasing things, and outside of the hostel, it is quite easy to exist without speaking a word to other people. Although we are searching out ways to involve ourselves culturally, it is very comfortable to exist in the Tim/Ellen shell (especially when lots of things are closed during the holidays). Well, here are some pictures of the last four days: Tim
We are on our way out of Santiago today and heading for Argentina. We had a nice time in Santiago and met a lot of interesting travelers. Many of which are traveling around the world. A couple of nights ago I had bedbugs and woke up with a bunch of awful, itchy, red bites on my body. They have been driving me crazy!! The nice
part was that the owner moved us to another room and gave us 2 nights free of charge.
Last night was New Year's Eve. The owner of the Hostel cooked us all a big meal and we sat around playing cards and talking. As it approached midnight we all walk to the main drag in the city where everyone was gathered. It was crazy, there were cars and buses park all over the place and the people were all having a great time. There were drinks and confetti. And as we rolled into the new year fire works went off. It was very contained even though there were no regulations and no police, just the entire city celebrating together! Enjoy our few pictures, they took quite awhile to upload and we need to get moving. Happy New Year everyone and thanks for all your posts and messages. L
Tim with Virgin MotherThis is a picture of Tim with the virgin mother on top of a hill. This is an interesting part of some cities culture to build large statues on top of a mountain in the middle of the city.

Send Private MessageYeah Ellen, don't you have a burka you could wear?? and Tim, that is one HUGE plate of meat!! I've been off meat for 8 or 9 years I think my body would go into shock if I tried that. What did it feel like?
I hope you have a wonderful adventure and am enjoying keeping up with your trip. Have fun and be careful!!!
Wow Tim, your hair is short & looks great. I'm jealous, it looks so nice & warm there but it is so cold here- Tuesday, when I first landed, from warm D.C., it was 6 degrees. So much snow! Enjoy the sun you 2. Oh, and email me directions on how to use the Rosetta Stone program por favor! Gracias!
Tim, i knew that you would come home a meat eater:) It looks like you guys are having a great time. I can't wait to see all of the pictures and reading about your adventures.
