One week down, three to go here in Santiago. I think it is still a pretty nice town except for its size. Muy grande. Takes me about 45 minutes to walk to school if I am just strolling along. One thing to notice here is that there arent as many stray dogs. In Bariloche they were a real problem. One girl was ganged up on by about 5 and bitten! Crazy stuff. But here, none. The school teachers are great here. I was warned before that Chilenos speak quickly and was worried about this in class. The every day people do speak quickly but the teachers do not. I have learned more Spanish here than anywhere else. We are getting into different forms of verbs other than passed and present which makes speaking Spanish much easier. Well, simpler anyways. I can cut corners a little more now instead of talking all proper like all the time. In the next three weeks I must finish my 4 page paper in Spanish for my college credits. I must say, I am a little bit scared about it. It is a huge amount to translate. It is going to take me awhile. It
kinda sucks that I have to start thinking about the real world again. Write a paper, find a place to live, get accepted into a college. Blah. I am going to stay here. Maybe Bolivia. I hear it is cheap there.
Tuesday I was invited to a Salsa dance class. It was much easier than Tango but I have all the moves burned into my head for Tango and kept on messing up. I still had fun. Salsa is much better to know than Tango, I mean really, when are you going to be dancing Tango? Salsa isnt really about form or technique, just making sure you stay moving, thats all. My dance class was with a Swiss girl named Julia. She probably has the coolest eyes that I have ever seen. One green, one blue. I have seen people with two different eyes before but hers are vibrant and easily noticed. She sucked at Salsa too so it was all good. Afterwards we went to the bar area of town and I tried a Pisco Sour. That is national liquor I hear. Very very very sour. I know, I am not supposed to use the word very
but god damn. It was hard to finish. Reminded me of Sour Warheads that I use to eat as a kid. After that I walked the two girls home and caught a cab the rest of the way home.
I forget which day it was, but I made a trip up Cerro Santa Lucia, that means hill btw. The train thing that took us up was called a funicular and it reminded me of a ride at Six Flags. We timed it perfectly and were there for sunset. The view was amazing. Afterwards we, Elisabeth and I, went to dinner at a Arabian place called Ali Babas. How stereotypical. We enjoyed humus and some kind of goat cheese while a magician performed for us. What a strange evening that was.
The big event this week was Rafting. It was kinda expensive for what we got but I can still say that I have been brown water rafting now. Yeah, the water was pretty gross looking and smelled like maple cream of wheat. Weird, I know. It didnt taste like it though. yekk. We had to get fully decked out in wetsuits and helmets (pink one for
me) which made us feel all cool. Chile is going through a little bit of a drought here so the water was low but we still had a great time. It only lasted an hour or so with an Asado afterwards. That is like a Parilla in Argentina. Thats like a BBQ in America. Yellow Jackets! God! They were everywhere. They loved to eat our steaks. I mean, youd get the food to your mouth and one would be on it. No one was stung but if you know me well enough, I hate wasps and yellow jackets. I was in and out. Ate my food then ran away. We all chilled out after lunch and then we headed back. I got lucky and had the bus drop me off at my house.
Most of the nights during the week I spend hanging out in a little cafe down the street. Free wifi! Right now I am at Starbucks. I am trying to be friendly with the Baristas for free coffee but I dont think it is going to happen. I dont speak enough Spanish I guess. More to come next week guys. Pretty boring here but I
will try to dig something up. Chau- Eric

Pink Hat
Boy, you are all decked out in the pink hat and pants. Good pics. I'm saving this picture to use someday. Looking forward to more pics. Take care!
