Arrived here around 5pm. Looks like a nice port town. Went for a walk along the lake. Had dinner in a nice restaurant on the pier. I had King crab in spinach crepes, Kay had the salmon. It went down really well with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon reserva.
19.11.08 We did an excursion that explained the diverse nature close to Calbuco volcano. We also had two Horticulturists from England. This made all the difference as they explained all the different plans and trees. Apparently the same species exists in New Zealand as they were once the same land mass. I also learnt that most of the flowers in the southern Hemisphere are white because they are pollinated by moths , whereas in the northern hemisphere the flowers are red because they are pollinated by the birds. In the late afternoon we visited a small fishing village for souvenir's. We could see Calbuco volcaneo and the tip of Osorno from there. We then tried to get the 4G SD card onto a DVD, tried 4 shops but non had the hardware to read it.
Went to a proper offi for local beer. Got some real dark ale which coast 1.50 a bottle but was great.
Dinner in another seafood restaurant: Kay had vegetable's in an omelet. I had the local fish with crab, prawns and calamari washed down with a bottle of Carmenere.
Observations:
- The zebra crossings work i.e cars stop rather than skirt around you
- the seafood and wine are fantastic
- lots of hotels are being build for the expected hordes of tourist
- We were told the weather is sunny for two days then rains. So far its been sunny everyday, this is our
4th day here.
We have a flight to Santiago at 2pm, so we are going for one last walk along the lake front, yes it´s another sunny day.

Travel In Chille
You should have taken the bus. They are a real experience in Chile. Fast, luxurious and inexpensive. We used them all the time. Take the overnight bus and select either Cama or Semi-Cama. That's sleeper or half sleeper. The chairs are full recliners and turn into a bed for the overnight journey and there is full trolley service. It's like business or first class on a flight.
