Lucas and Joe hurriedly drove off the ferry and reached ground in Puerto Montt. An 8 hour ride along the coast with no food made us overly delighted to see Morgan waiting at the gates of the harbor with a big box of Patagonian Donuts. We happily exchanged travel stories for the next couple of hours before we shifted towards our next goal; climbing in the valley of Cochamó. It is a sanctuary of beautiful granite deep in the coastal rainforest, the walls reminiscent of Yosemite Valley. After having the van pass its mandatory maintenance check, we were all smiles as we headed east bagged down with groceries for the coming week. The drive was beautiful, each of us pointing at plots of land under the mountains we would want to call our own one day. ... read more

I´m tired. It´s a cumulative exhaustion. Anyone who tells you that travelling is relaxing is either full of shit or not moving around enough. We have been on the move for the last three weeks extensively, so i suppose that it is time for a solid update. After Jess and I parted ways, i came back up to the Frey for another week of climbing. I met a dude from Aspen (yes, colorado. No he was not rich) and he became my climbing partner for the week. His name is Pete. We climbed several great routes together, including the Normal route of Torre Principal, and the best route i have done in the Frey called Siniestro Total (Totally Sinister!). 7 pitches. 5.10d. Incredible! So Pete and I had a fantastic week climbing. My good friend Luke ... read more

hello! what a great past few days! aly and i just got back from our first backpacking trip in patagonias lake district! we caught the bus from puerto varas to the small town of cochamo on the 28th, two hours later we were standing on the side of a gravel road in the middle of patagonia. (awesome! beautiful!) we got a ride up the road to the trailhead with some other mountaineers (i think they were swiss) and started our 15km hike to the la junta valley. someone hiking out warned us that the la junta region gets 360 days of rain a year but it was a blistering plus 28 and not a cloud in the sky... he said that he wished us the sunny 5 days of the years! thanking him we moved onward ... read more

A family friend with Chilean contacts arranged for us to meet his friend in the small village of Cochamo. His instructions were: "go to centre of town near church and ask for Cochelo. Everybody know him". We realized we were heading into a pretty rural area so we thought it would be funny to see if it all worked out as the directions said they would! Arriving in Petrohue we had a taxi driver pick us up to drive us to Cochamo. The trip takes about one hour and we had to arrange for it since there is not a bus and we weren't sure exactly when we would arrive. Our driver Rodrigo was a very nice man and although he spoke very little English we managed to have a good conversation with him. We learned ... read more
