28th January There was nothing left for us in Caldera it was OK but we thought it better to push on North to San Pedro De Atacama. San Pedro is at 2500 meters above sea level so we would need time to acclimatize to the altitude so thought push on then stay there a couple of days. It was another 11 hour bus journey to San Pedro so we left Calama & headed back to Copiapo to arrange a bus. The only bus available was the night bus leaving at 9.30pm which was good as it meant another night’s accommodation saved on the bus. As some of you know, my sister Laura came for a short visit. She spent the weekend with me here in Copiapó and then we headed to Serena for the week so she could go to her class´s graduation and spend some time with her Chilean family from her exchange last year. And as Im sure any of you who know Laura would expect... she did all the picture taking, but I´ve got some of her pictures so here are the ones from our weekend while here in Copiapó. We went and saw my school, went downtown, went to a party with my friends and went to the Dunes with the girls. Teleton is a charity that runs centers for disabled children, and every year they have huge celebrations and concerts and things to get people donating. I went to the concert this last weekend and it was GREAT! the stadium was packed and two of my favorite Chilean bands played- Chancho En Piedra and La Noche. There were also humor performances, videos, and several other bands and singers (one of them was a young woman who was a child of Teleton). very sorry for the quality of the videos.... I was holding the camera up over the crowd and it was really hard to keep still especially when the crowed was dancing or anything cause it was so packed. We´ve had an amazing week in Bolivia and just arrived in Chile, our third country so far. We started our adventure in Bolivia in the capital, La Paz. A very busy and hectic city - too much so for A. Women in local dress - including bowler hats - make up the majority and gringos the minority. The highlight of La Paz was probably watching the new James Bond film as by happy coincidence, it is mainly set in Bolivia. The reactions of the Bolivian audience, particularly to the overweight cop demanding ´documentos por favor´from Daniel Craig, was hilarious and a real treat.
