Yo, we´re in San Pedro now, the deserts of Northern Chile. Yesterday was Iquique. Iquique was sooo nice, hostal RIGHT by the beach. Where in the States could you get a room seriously steps from the beach for only $12 a night?? The water was beautiful, the sand, ahh! Iquique the town itself however was really run down, sketchy, lots of Chnese restaurants. The ¨Chinatown¨was disappointing, just some cheesily decorated restaurants. but I found the Chumbeques, which is this little pastry thing that Chileans of Chinese ancestry created, that is supposed to be a mix of the two cultures. In the morning I went PARAGLIDING!! It was hella expensive but the views were worth it. And the pictures! But I felt like I had to hurl the whol etime so that sort of ruined it. Then we walked around, by the beach, in town, saw some sights.
THen, we took a 11 pm bus to Calama. We ahd to get off the bus at 2 am for customs, ugh. painful. But I actually slept thank god. Then at 5 am when we arrived the bus terminal was closed. We still had to get to San Pedro on another bus from another compnay. So a taxi took us to this cafe. He said he could take us to San Pedro for a certain amt, that was kind sketch. I hate how the others so willingly tell people tha we´re fromt he States. My mom would never do that when we were in china. It obviously means something. We should say we´re from ... some obscure country in Europe. Ohgosh, being bythe beach in Iquique, I seriously felt like we were in California. All the surfers, English speaking people, beach, warm weather. But I dont know if I could live by the beach my whole life right? Some day I´ll have enough money to have a beach house to use when I want, hehe.
Oh and for dinner, we went to a Chinese restaurant.
So we got dropped off at this sketchy cafe at 5 am, had to wait an hour. Al.l these drunk people cameby, talked to us. THen these really drunk older women who had just finished partying or something, were nutso fscreaming laughing. Then one of the women started pointing at me whispering to the other, chino! chino! asiano! This bugged me seo much, but of course nobody really cared or mentioned it later or even noticed. We got to San Pedro finally and settled into our hostal. What a sketchy morning.
