Brazil Travel Blogs

Background: Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822. By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil overcame more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country when in 1985 the military regime peacefully ceded power to civilian rulers. Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, it is today South America's leading economic power and a regional leader. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem.

The money shot
We were lucky that by mid-afternoon the clouds were starting to clear up.
Before heading out on the Ina Trail, we spent 3 days relaxing in Cusco and for my part trying to get over a stomach cramping case of travellers diahrea. A quick trip to the doctor, a stool test, and a packet of Ciproxin later we were ready for 4 days of pain on the Inca Trail. Friday 26th we started at 6am, pretty easy for a first day. Saturday involved going almost straight up a 1200m mountain then 700m back down. Luckily it was all over by lunch time and most of us slept for the rest of the day. Sunday [View Full Entry]

Rio de Janeiro
And so, to Brazil.. the fifth biggest country on Earth. Due to the constaints of time, we were only briefly heading across the South East of the country... but it at least gave us a flavour for it.. Our first stop, from Argentina, was the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls. Equally spectacular to the Argy side, but still worth a visit to get a different perspective on this incredible place.. We then had a quick, ie 2 minute detour into Paraguay.. this was because we hadnt stopped to get a Brazilian entry stamp on our way in from Argentina. The [View Full Entry]

"Sao Salvador, Bahia de Sao Salvador A terra do branco mulato A terra do preto doutor..." Magica terra do Senhor do Bonfim!

Não so' me senti mais segura, como so' vi sorri [View Full Entry]

Impressed? We were
Greetings to one and all. I won´t write much but I will post some more piccies. Iguassu from the Argy side was incredible again. We started with a 4x4 drive through the jungle then went on the jet boat. I enjoyed that sooo much - riding the rapids the wrong way at speed was fun. And then the boat pulled up right under the spray from the falls and we got a tad wet. We also went for a boat tour of the wetlands at the top of the falls and saw a caimen. From Iguassu we spent a couple of [View Full Entry]

You have to go and see Jesus when you´re in Rio. And I can confirm he is very big!
Greetings from Argentina! We{ve been on the road for just over a week now and we{re having so much fun. First stop was Rio - fantastic city. We stayed in the Flamengo district pretty central. Did all the usual bits over 3 days - big Jesus, cable car up Sugarloaf mountain to watch the sunset, sunbathed on the Copocabana and visited the botanical gardens. We joined up with our tour group for the next 7 weeks on Saturday and headed for Paraty - a small old slave town just south of Sao Paulo. Got some camping practise in and went on [View Full Entry]

Rio By Night
Paraty
Tropical Paradise

Visiting Rio de Janeiro is always an amazing experience. It was Erik’s first visit and we spend 3 days there. We visited the usual stuff such as the Sugar Loaf, Redeemer Christ, Botanic Garden, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches and other nice spots. A shame that the weather wasn’t good but it was really hot and humid. Rio at night is an amazing experience. The Lagoa da Conceicao is such a stunning place. As Erik say, no doubt that Rio is among the most beautiful cities in the world. We haven’t taken nice photos this time but we promise next time we’ll [View Full Entry]
