Background: Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822. By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil overcame more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country when in 1985 the military regime peacefully ceded power to civilian rulers. Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, it is today South America's leading economic power and a regional leader. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem.

************* First Part (to spoil the surprise, there will be three!) There is an itch under my skin. Not too deep down but just far enough in not to be sated with conventional scratching techniques. (You scratch an itch but never itch a scratch - ouch - I have become Gary. I really feel pain I just imageine. Gary did you go ouch?) I wish I did really become Gary. Then I would be able to make this damn itch go away, conventionally. And I cant find a brillo pad in this rain-forsaken country. I even invert it. "Pad Brillo" I [View Full Entry]

So we went out last night. I´m not sure where coz the guy from the hostel guided us there. Was a very nice posh club, full of brazilians. Was a good night. Anyway, we moved into our new hotel, and oh my god it is value for money. We have massive rooms, lovely bathrooms and a rooftop pool! All for around 15 quid a night - thanks to an internet deal. Checked ipanema out today. Lovely place. Anyway i dont wanna stay online for long so thats it. [View Full Entry]

After finally getting out of the hostel, we proceeded to check the beach out. While doing so we decided to check out another hotel. We found one called Rio Copa which only charged a few dollars more for a much better deluxe room. Not sure if its a good idea leaving tho, seeing as all the backpackers here know what to do etc. They´re also all our age etc too. Met a few last nite and they recommended a wicked place to go called Lapa. Lapa was a massive area full of street vendors and party goers alike. The atmosphere was [View Full Entry]

Cristo Redentor is the big statue of christ that looks over rio. If u ever come here, you´d be pretty stupid to miss it. After much discussion, we decided to taxi it. We were goin to walk up there, but after being told it was dangerous to walk near the favelas, we decided against it. Thank god we did, as the roads up were just vegetation. The view from the top was well worth the agro gettin up there. In fact i can honestly say that is the best view i have ever seen, from what i can remember at least. [View Full Entry]

I knew meeting Jospeh Heller was a good idea. I was looking for a beer, or a bar, and there he was. He has helped me diagnose my condition perfectly. I have a Jehovah Complex. The symptoms, when put side by side, allow no other conclusion once logic is applied fairly with the salient care of an old chef dicing a new onion. Symptoms: 1. An unreasonable belief that everybody around me is crazy; 2. A homicidal impulse to machine-gun strangers; 3. Retrospective Falsification; and, 4. And unfounded suspicion that people hate me and are trying to kill me. A callow [View Full Entry]

Stranden som vi simmade iland till och plockade snackor

After a ten hour flight, most of which i surprisingly slept most of, i have finally arrived in Rio. First impressions? Scary. After exiting the baggage control, i was continuously mobbed my taxi touts and porters, all of whom offered to exchange money on the black market. I refused. This seemed to be a bad idea when i thought my passport had been stolen. Thankfully Shyam had it, but for the 3minutes i spent looking for it, i felt like crap. I took it as a sign to be careful. I dont think il be taking much more than some cash [View Full Entry]
