Background: Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822. By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil overcame more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country when in 1985 the military regime peacefully ceded power to civilian rulers. Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, it is today South America's leading economic power and a regional leader. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem.

Finances = Very Green, Fitness = Red, Relationship = Green, Arguments = Still none ...she was a showgirl. Does that give a clue where we are? For those of you who aren't Barry Manilow fans we are currently in an internet cafe opposite Copacobana beach in Rio de Janeiro. Its been a while since we last blogged - when we were just recovering from our skiing adventure in Bariloche. We stayed in Argentina for a further few days as there was still a lot of chocolate and wine which needed sampling. Between those arduous tasks we also found time to walk [View Full Entry]

Ive just spent a couple of days here in Bonito in the South of Brazil. It's quite a touristy town where alot of Brazillians come on holiday. I can understand why its called Bonito becasue it's really beautiful here. The town is'nt anything special, but then it is the low season but the surrounding countryside is gorgeous. I got the bus from Corumba with the english couple, benji and hannah, i met in the Pantanal. We took a trip to the Rio Prata together where we floated down river for an hour in wetsuits and snorkels. The river was totally stunning [View Full Entry]

Faith again here. We drove to Florianopolis on sunday and went right on through. The capital of Santa Catarina, "Floripa" is half on the mainland and half on Ilha (Island) de Santa Catarina. Most of the Ilha is BEACHES and small towns supported by tourism. its the off season now, so we got a room with a porch facing Praia da Joaquina, on the east side of the island and facing open ocean. Praia da Joaquina hosts the Brazilian Surfing championships every year, so every day by 7 or 8am there would be twenty surfers in the water right by our [View Full Entry]

The bus arrived in Manaus at 6 am. When I got out off the bus I had a temperature shock. It was so hot and humid at 6 am, I couldn’t imagine how it would be at noon. I had 21 hours to kill in Manaus before my flight to Belo Horizonte, the end of my trip. I had originally planned to take a boat down the Amazon River to Belem (4 days), and the bus from there to Belo Horizonte (3 days), but I have to be home before the end of the week, so I substituted a 4-hour flight [View Full Entry]

Well I can safely say that the ´delights´of Sao Paulo have been well left behind me! I caught the bus from there to Rio last Sunday. It was a 6 hour ride between the two which actually passed fairly quickly. When we arrived we passed alongside Favelas on the outskirts of the city. They are amazing places, dense with ramshackle brick buildings that these people call home. There were loads of kids on the roofs flying little kites in the sun. On the bus I had met a great-granny from Rio who decided that it was her mission to look after [View Full Entry]

This is Vincent. To be honest the idea of having an entry for friends we made on our way, came from his web site(www.planetvince.com). This friendly Irish guy, with his 40 centimeter beard, is always the central attraction for the locals when walking on the streets!! His Irish accent is almost incomprehensible, but fits very well with his role of a drug dealer in the movie he took part in when he was in India. He is a very funny guy, but he's always complaining about being bored.... hehehe. We first met in Istanbul and then in Olympus, where we started [View Full Entry]

We are always keen to know more locals, specially backpackers that are not on the road. Have nice conversation about traveling and exchanging experiences, everything tasting nice local beers. So, if you would like only to drink a beer with us or even have two crazy Brazilians staying over (following the principle of couchsurf.com or hospitalityclub.org), we would love to be invited...hehehe. We are not area restricted, so you can invite from anywhere in the world. Leave in the comment area of this post your invitation and for sure we will be with you once we arrive in your city/country. Buzios is a beautiful and chilled out city near Rio de Janeiro - about 3 hours driving. It became famous in the 60's, when Brigitte Bardot spent some time there. In the 70's, Mick Jagger was there for a couple of days. People say he arrived in a limo, and that was the first time that Buzios saw one. The beaches are wonderful. Some are so calm that just doesn't have waves, while others are great for surfing or kite surfing. The colour of the water is also amazing... At night people go to "Rua das Pedras", which means Stones Street. [View Full Entry]
