Ok... This is my first blog ever, so please don't blame me for doing it bad bad way. I am scientific mind, so long stories using lots of adjectives is not my domain. I'll try to be descriptive though:) Start: Seems that after long struggling with the airlines and ticket choices my wife and me finally have them in the pocket (or actually on a hard drive). I think it is unfair that from our home town Gdansk, Poland, Europe, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way the only choice to fly to south america is Luftwaffe...ups sorry Lufthansa:) We could possibly get more choices from Warsaw...but who likes to live in Warsaw:) So for regular price we are taking the most packed, narrow seats ever airline...at least will collect few miles. I got to Sao Paulo this morning, after a very long bus ride from Bonito, which was not the best bus ride I had (but not the worst either). I went to a practice at the main academy of Cordao de Ouro, my capoeira group, and had a great time. I forgot how exhausting capoeira is, but it still is fun. The pictures here are from a snake show I went to in Bonito on my last night there. The guy talked a lot, which I did not understand, but then I got to hold (and kiss, see the pictures) a boa constrictor, and to see a snake eat a rat, which was cool. Tomorrow I am going to Rio de Janeiro, because it is impossible to get to Ilha Grande on the same day from ... read more

So here we are then boys and girls. Sao Paulo, the big apple, the big smoke the big cheese, the big erm city...im clutching at straws a bit there. So Brad and I arrive into Sao Paulo about 11pm in the evening and straight away we jump on the metro. Now so that some of you are aware, Sao Paulo has a pretty bad reputation for crime. Particularly street crime. In fact they have so many red-light robberies (you pull up at the traffic lights in your car and whilst you are at a standstill, somebody thrusts a gun in your face and screams ´give me your money´. Well they actually probably say it in Portuguese, otherwise im sure most people wouldn´t understand them!) So to counteract this the government has changed the law, so that ... read more

Hello there people....Well, what an interesting few days I´ve had!..Touched down in São Paulo on Sunday evening after 14hrs flying. I had absolutely no Portuguese and very little Spanish(and not very many of the people I came across spoke English). However I managed to get myself to the hostel safely, despite getting absolutely drenched in a monsoon of rain! Spent the next two days walking around São Paolo city centre, which is bloody dodgy to say the least! The are so many poor down-and-out people just sitting on the streets, in the parks-begging or sleeping(in the middle of the day!). There also seemed to be alot of physically disabled people too, hobbling around on crutches... Half of the people in general seem to be lazing around the streets with no jobs to go to, and the other ... read more

Hi all, Como Vai? Our final night in Florianopolis (6th) was a relatively low key affair, instead of heading out we once again unleased the AVFC playing cards and played poker with some folk from Ireland and Leicester. Beer did flow however and attempts to make drunken popcorn ensued, we were also followed by a dog who took a shine to Sam and managed to get into our hostel room which was comical. On the eve of the 7th Jan we decided to finally drag ourselves away from Florianopolis though and catch an overnight bus to Sao Paolo. Luckily there were no catastrophies on this one other than putting up with the cheapest seats and more erratic driving, and we arrived in Sao Paolo, or Sampa, early on the 8th. Despite being ridiculously tired we got ... read more

The best part of travelling around is meeting other travellers. The even better part is when they find out that you will be visiting their city and offer you free accommodation. This was the case for São Paulo. We met Sarah while trekking the Inca Trail, and she was more than happy to have us stay with her for a few days. After convincing the guy at the gate that we were Sarah´s amigos from Australia and realising that he has been saying Asarah or something like that and we agreed that we were talking about the same person, he let us in to terrorise the apartment building. First act, press every single floor button after getting out of the elevator, that had to return to ground floor to pick up John and Megan. Being the ... read more

Off on honeymoon, it's been two years planning, one upset travel agent and one empty bank account but can't wait to go. Took the Friday off work mainly to just potter around, had an eye appointment with Keith, and hair touched up with "D". Now all is left is to pack our bags and travel to Heathrow airport, we have a night flight leaving at 9pm. But we've booked in to the Air flight lounge to get away from the the travellers in Heathrow. Hoping with fingers crossed that we get upgraded, as our friends, Steve Coombes and Phil Jones, BA pilots, have spoken to the pilot of our aircraft and ask if we can get upgraded if there is any room, as we are on our honeymoon, well if you don't ask you don't get. ... read more

Hello Friends and Family, Made it safe into Sao Paulo and we are staying with our friends Stacey and Angelo in a beautiful apartment on the 21st floor of an apartment building. The area is very safe and Angelo knows his way around really well, so it has made this part of traveling a real vacation, especially since we have been staying in rooms in hostels with 9 bunk beds. Very cramped and smelly! We have been hanging out a lot with Angelo's wonderful family and we will head to the beach on Monday for a bit. Sao Paulo is such a massive city. When you look around, all to be seen are seas of sky scrapers. It is really bazaar. There are some 17 million people who live in this city. We had a great ... read more
