I had the opportunity to go to Rio a couple of months ago and had a blast! Despite all of the fear that so many people tried to instill into my brain, as there is a lot of crime in the city, I had nothing short of an incredible and beautiful experience. I met my friend down there, and we traveled together, but I also did a little bit of traveling and exploring by myself....

Hello - I''m heading to Rio in about a week - any suggestions on decent budget hotels/guesthouses?
Hey I'm so sorry! I'm new to this blog and haven't checked it since I posted....unfortunately I don't. My friend booked our accomodations in Copacabana and one of the ways he bribed me to join him was that I didn't have to pay....and I know it wasn't "cheap."
Please let me know if I can help you in any other ways!
If you like the beach go to Buzios, and if you like the mountains visit Petropolis (both day trips).
