Day 15 is over here in Rio and tomorrow will be the final day of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Looking back its hard to believe we visited the Olympic Park for the very last time. Hard to believe there won't be Beach Volleyball on tonight and into the wee hours of the morning at Copacabana Beach. Hard to believe the thousands of athletes that have poured their heart and soul into the past 4 years leading up to these Games will finish up tomorrow and head home to re-evaluate and re-charge. For us, the Games here in Rio have been nothing short of incredible. Our experience here in Rio has been first-rate. We've learned so much about this South American country, its people and the beautiful City that has played host to the world for ... read more

Well that's it. Day 16 here in Rio has come and gone. It was a soggy day from start to finish but that certainly did not dampen the spirits of the marathoners this morning or the massive crowd in Maracana Stadium tonight for the Closing Ceremonies. It have been fantastic to get to share our adventures with you here in Rio and especially our Olympic experience here at the Summer Games. With an average of over 70 views a day and nearly 1,200 over the course of the Games, it was great to know that so many of you were taking the time to read the blog and follow along with us. While we're sure most of the views were just our moms clicking refresh on their computers, the love and support is appreciated none the ... read more

Day 14 is in the books here in Rio and its hard to believe we are only two short days away from the Closing Ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games! While the time goes fast for us, it clearly moving even faster for Usain Bolt. It seem unfair to starting talking about this day without mentioning his super-human achievements over that past 12 years. To think that one man has won the 100m, 200m and 4x100m Relay in three straight Olympics simply defies logic. Its hard to imagine anyone in the future surpassing this truly epic Olympic resume. We started our day back at the Olympic Park and had our first chance to watch some diving at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre. This venue was the only building on site at what is now Olympic ... read more

Day 13 is over here in Rio and it appears as if someone forgot to tell our Canadian Olympians that 13 is supposed to be an unlucky number. Far from it indeed, we had a historic day on many fronts and added four shinny new medals to our total. We started the day watching the Men's Triathlon. The Brownlee brothers came into the day as the Vegas favourites to win. Having said that, this was a much tougher course then back in London and no Gold medalist has repeated (or defended their title) in the five Olympics since Triathlon's debuted in the Olympics in Sydney back in 2000. It was an absolutely gorgeous day for a triathlon and you simply could not find a more picturesque venue for a triathlon anywhere in the world. The organizers ... read more

It's hard to believe that Day 12 has already come and gone here in Rio. No matter how much excitement, noise and passion the athletes display in the first days and week of the Olympics, it just keeps building and building, the closer we get to the end. In the big tournaments (volleyball, basketball, soccer, handball, etc.) the pool play is over and as the announcer said this morning at our Men's Volleyball match against Russian -- it is win or go home time. Every points means that much more, every win feels that much sweeter. Our first adventure started early this morning heading back to the Maracanazinho Gymnasium to watch our Canadian men battle Russia in a quarter final volleyball game. Much the same as our Women's Basketball Team last night, our men just didn't ... read more

We really had an amazing Day 11 here in Rio. It can be heart-wrenching the the roller coaster of emotions that you can experience at such a huge sporting event such as the Olympic Games. With so many events taking place simultaneously, you can go from the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows and then back again in the blink of an eye. We were fortunate enough to have tickets to go and watch three of the four Women's Basketball quaterfinals today. With the exception of the USA vs. Japan game, all of the quarters were crazy close. Australia lost to Serbia by 2 points, Spain won over Turkey on a buzzer beater to win by 2 points and our Canadian women lost by only 5. Our day in the basketball arena meant we ... read more

Day 10 is done here in Rio and it might just be remember as a 'series of unfortunate events'. Not only was it the hottest winter day we've ever experienced at just over 33 degrees Celsius, there was lots to point to in the universe today that things just weren't lining up exactly right for us or our athletes! It started with us forgetting our camera (and my phone) for our first event (track cycling) and all the while our men were being shut out over at Kayak and Canoe events. We got on a bus that didn't take us the way the route normally goes (for some unknown reason) leaving us a long walk from our regular Subway station. Next up we were seconds away from potentially being crushed by giant flying cameras above Olympic ... read more

Day 9 at the Olympics in Rio and the 9th day in a row that Canada has won a medal. Starting at the end, but the drought is over for the men and Canada has another medal courtesy of Andre de Grasse. It was a spectacular night in the Olympic Stadium and great to see on TV that it packed to the rafters for the 100m Finals! For us, the day began very early as we made our way to the Olympic Golf Course. For those of you that don't know, this is the first time in 114 years that golfers will receive Olympic medals. With three rounds already in the books, the fourth and final round began bright and early this morning under a clear sky and blazing hot sun. The golf course was (to ... read more

While Day 8 here in Rio has come to an end, Day 9 will be starting VERY soon for us. We just got back from Men's Basketball and the local time is 2:25am. We have tickets to the final round of Men's Golf tomorrow morning and the first tee time is 7:00am. That means we need to head to the subway for about 5:00am, or if you're counting, in less that 3 hours! Unlike last week though, the Rio organizers have ensure the subways system has stayed open late and is opening up early. Transit was supposed to shut down at 1:00am tonight, but even as we exited the station tonight, they showed no sign of closing any time soon. One of the things we've been most appreciative of has been the organizers ability to, when ... read more

We just wrapped up Day 6 here at the Olympics and it's hard to believe just how quickly it is going by! We were very excited to get to head to to mini-Marcana Stadium (actually named Ginasio do Maracanazinho). This is one of a few permanent venues that was in place prior to the Games. It also happens to be the closest venue to our apartment, meaning our shortest day on transit so far - amazing! Today was special because it was the first time we were going to be able to cheer on a full Canadian Team. We've cheered on Canadian individual athletes and our doubles teams in Tennis, but today was the first full team we have watched. Before we get to that though, we arrived to an absolutely packed Gym (we'll call it ... read more
