On the southern coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro is the city of Rio de Janeiro, land of the tiny bikini and even tinier speedo and one of most scenic and well loved cities world wide.

Locals are known as "Cariocas" and pronounce Rio as "Heeo Je Han-ear-ho", wear Havaianas (flip flops/thongs) all the time, let the days slip by on the beaches and party the nights away.

Idag tirsdag startet vi med frokost og ble enige om å dra på Copa som vanlig. Ikke nødvendig å stresse mer enn nødvendig nå. Dessuten blir det jo en lang dag, vi skal på Carnaval Brasilieiro. Listen som hotellet legger ut viser at det er bare ca 40 streetband rundt i bydelen i dag. Vi kjøper noen bokser og bader. Dette er den siste dagen på stranda, så boksene nytes med andakt. The Maracana is set to host the 2014 world cup final and what a stadium it is. It currently holds 90,000 people but holds the world record of nearly 200,000 for the world cup final between Brazil and Uruguay in 19??. Last night saw the match between Flamengo and Cabrofrinese take place. The attendance for this match was only about 25,000 but the noise and atmosphere created by the home fans was amazing. RIO!!!!! Everything was beautiful, streets smell of weed - and other stuff, chilled, not enough time during the day, and quiet at night (in the dodgy streets and in most of the bars and clubs mid-week) Best stuff included...... - Sugar Loaf Mountain....great views of the city at sunset with an amazing red sky. With no sign of Bob Hope, we head into Puerto Iguazu to catch the overnight bus to Rio. Our Plane!

Well we’re finally here. Months of talking and planning are finally over. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the ride. Our 9 month cultural development course has begun! So after a fab 24hrs on a bus, yes that was 24hrs, and having the rudest Brazilian man sitting next to me we arrive in Rio (20/02)!!!! I am still not sure how but all 5 of us get into a taxi with all our luggage and head to the hostel.......sorry I mean hovel.......OK I know when I booked it I did not expect the Ritz it was only a tenner a night over carnival period but serioulsy this was just a doss house!!! Our 27hr bus ride from Salvador to Rio was reasonably pleasent, the chairs were comfortable and they reclined to almost flat with a leg rest, the only bad thing was that we were seated at the back of the bus right next to the toilets! Being next to the toilets on a 27hr bus trip full of gringos with Brazil bellies is the last thing you want. We managed to get by with the beautiful scenery. At Heathrow

We’ve arrived, and in true Brit fashion we managed to burn ourselves on the first day! Whoop! My feet are now blistering and Steve’s back is looking nasty!
