The last couple of days have been busy between buying hammocks and looking at boats for our trip as well as trying to fit in the cultural stuff in Belem.
On the first night we went around the markets to find some dinner, we found a lovely little stand kind of thing where we had steak, rice noodles all four around 3euro, not bad eh?!! We tried to find a bar afterwards to have a few drinks but everything seemed to be closed after dark so we had to have a quite night in the hostel. The next morning Phillipe was´s mother runs our hotel made anne and myself go to his apartment to help him with his paintings, he does a lot of canvass paintings and seems to sell most of them. He needed help to frame them so we were more than happy to snoop and have a look at where they live. Was a pretty small apartment with one bedroom and big bathroom and a kitchen and aparently he lives there with his brother and mother, nice and cosy!!
Afterwards we finally met some more gringos who are staying in our hotel, Harry, Phillipa and George from the

Uk and Oz. These are the first gringos we´ve met since Salvador so its nice to have some conversation again, not in broken portugese!!
We bought our hammocks for 10 euro, pretty large items, think they will take up half of our bags if we take them afterwards. We booked our boat through our hotel in the end, the lady who runs the hotel ws trying to get the money off us yesterday but until I saw the boat I wasn´t giving her a dime!!! Last night we did some shopping and bought some beers and stayed in the hostel with the others. Was an awesome storm that lasted a couple of hours!!
This morning we had to get up at 7am to go to our boat. The lady gave us our tickets so we ventured down to the dock. By the time we got there it was quite full and people had already put up their hammocks, we found a space in the middle of the second floor, seems to be a nice boat, I dont know who my hammock is beside and Anne is beside a women of about 90 years!! We finally paid our hotel owner for the ticket and are all set for our trip down the Amazon, not sure when the next time I can update as I think the net is quite slow where we stop. We plan to stay with an indigenous family for a night too which should be pretty amazing and go Camine spotting etc. If I can I will try and update in Santerem otherwise you wil have to wait 😉
