Day 81 The journey was going well however at around 2am, the bus was stopped and searched by Police. It was quite daunting as we were asked for our passports and questioned about where we were going but everything was in order and the bus carried on and arrived in Campo Grande around 10am. We checked into our hostel and planned to use the day to map out our next main trip to the Pantnal where we hoped to go tomorrow. Campo Grande did not have too much to offer in terms of things to do and was more of a stopping point to break up our journey. Having done some research and had an all you can eat buffet lunch, we decided to opt for four day trip which took us to a small isolated ... read more

Back in Campo Grande we asked the driver to take us to the bus station (which he kindly agreed to by charging us to wait whilst we checked availability) on the off chance that we could get on a bus that evening, but there was nothing else going that day, so we decided to come back in the morning to catch the 7.30 or 8am bus. Thankfully the others didn’t mind waiting for us and we all went back to the hostel and had a few beers with the girls and Tom, who had joined us on the trip as he was off to meet his girlfriend the next day at the airport. We were in bed by 1am and up again at 6am to take a taxi to the bus terminal. Bad luck continuing, there ... read more

Campo Grande Short and sweet. This was more of a recovery from Pantanal/preparation for Rio town. A couple days of R and R, less sightseeing and such. Our Pousada (as the B and Bs/hostels are called in BR) was nice. #1 Problem: Laundry. Lots of stinky, wet from the Panatal clothes. Laundry mat? Does. Not. Exist. In Brazil. I’m serious! Ultimately, we had to send all our things to a laundry service and have everything, from socks to underoos to dry fit shirts, dry cleaned. How do people wash their clothes??? A question that has yet to be answered. Anyway, we pretty much asked everyone and the conclusion is that no laundry mat was available and we had no choice but to send our clothes and decide never to speak of the bill again. Outside of ... read more

We left Sao Paulo on an overnight service to the huge bio diverse, subtropical area called the Pantanal. After arriving bang on time we were greeted by our super helpful tour company (Panatal Discovery) who offered us a few sweeteners to seal the deal. We were offered a free day in the Pantanal and a free nights accommodation where the tour ends in Bonito. He also confirmed the boat details from the Pantanal which would transport us into Paraguay. We had phoned the captain ourselves and asked the same questions, so it was good to hear the same thing from a local, meaning our langue skills were up to scratch! We left the access city of Campo Grande and travelled deep into the southern reaches of Brasils Pantanal. We arrived at our very modern lodge with ... read more

SO SORRY FOR THE DELAY, EXPECT 2 MORE LARGE ENTRIES SOON, AND I WILL TRY TO POST MORE OFTEN!! BEIJOS AMIGOS!! So i sat in the waiting room for my plane in Campo Grade, heading to Recifi. Oje vou embora (portuguese for i~m leaving today) I sat with a tight squeeze in my heart, a sadness and a longing. I wanted so much to stay and spend more time with everyone I had grown to love. I had arrived in Campo Grande earlier that day by bus and Ada, Adilson's mom was already there to meet, a truly lovely, lovely, lovely, wonderful, warm, and loving women. I didn't see her at first, and my thought as I got off the bus to grab my pack back was -ok, where am I? Where can I go to ... read more

Hi all, So Iguacu was indescribable, my pictures don´t do it justice. Speaking of, I will post a link to these at the bottom (they are uploading as I type onto Photobucket as everything else takes too long). I saw the Brazilian side yesterday before grabbing anoher overnight bus to Campo Grande. What an eventful few hours. My Grand Adventure I spent about 3 hours at the Brazilian side fo the falls and headed back by bus to Foz do Iguacu. There are two bus stations at Foz and I needed to get tothe other one. I am trying to budget and didn´t want a taxi so I asked at information and then hopped onto a bus to the other station, with about two hours to go until my bus departs. The bus is packed. Half ... read more

Arrived this morning in Campo Grande after long, cold overnight bus journey - not as good as Argentina, but OK. Assumed Campo Grande was the last stop - which it wasn't so we were still sitting on the bus when our bags were already off and sitting on the pavement, Atsuko was still asleep - putain !!! weather is now getting warm - high 20s in the day and much warmer in the sun. Tomorrow we're heading into the Pantanal for 3 days. Organised the tour through the hostel, should be hiking, piranha fishing, horse riding, and lots of wild animal watching. We took the option of camping so plenty of mosquito repellent to hand. Expect to have more huge steaks and chorizo sausages for dinner tonight - Brazilian portions are the same size as Argentinian ... read more

Hey Guys, Well we arrived in Campo Grande @ 7am and we´re booked for a 4 day Amazon Jungle excursion in the Pantanal by 9am so pretty productive morning to say the least! We can´t take all the credit since we were mobbed at the bus station, but we choose to go with the Hostelling International guys since the took us to there hostel gave us breakfast, let us use a room for an hour to shower after a long night on the bus so we were impressed. So at 10 we jump in the van for the 5hr ride into the Pantanal, once we arrived at our lodge we pretty much just hung out since it was late and waited for dinner. The Pantanal is the southern edge of the Amazon jungle and is the ... read more
