Porto Seguro Travel Blogs

Background: Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822. By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil overcame more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country when in 1985 the military regime peacefully ceded power to civilian rulers. Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, it is today South America's leading economic power and a regional leader. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem.

I´m in Braaaziiiilllll
Well, as you all probably expected knowing my internet addiction, here I am again on the internet because I´m bored. It´s not my fault . . . sort of. I decided to take a detour from my plans and jumped on a bus to Porto Seguro, about 300 km south my intended target of Salvador. Porto Seguro is the landing point of the very first Europeans here in 1500, by the Portuguese captain Cabral, and although they didn´t stay here very long, it later became an important port for them as they tried to defend themselves against other European attacks by [View Full Entry]

Another day on the beach.
Another day on the beach.
It was so hot. It usually hit about 42şC in the afternoons.
Four hours' bus and a boat ride south from Salvador'll take you to Barra Grande, an astonishingly beautiful little fishing village at the end of a peninsula. Quite honestly the closest to Heaven-on-earth I've yet seen. The whole village is built on the sand of some of Brazil's most beautiful beaches. Peaceful doesn't even begin to describe it and the people are lovely. It's slowly becoming an upmarket tourist town and now's the perfect time in its development to visit it. Lovely restaurants, hardly any vehicles and a seriously laid-back vibe. So beautifully off the beaten track it [View Full Entry]

At dinner in B.A.

Hey all, Well I have decided to give this travel diary/blog thing a bit of a crack.....so here goes Well i´m currently in Porto Seguro....This place is a little beach town which is about halfway between Rio and Salvodor. Nice little town, fairly commercialised now as I believe it was very popular with tourists a few years ago, no buildings higher than 2 storys though, so it still has a small feel. Has some great restaurants and heaps of touristy type shops, the water isn´t too appealing though as polution in the river is a bit out of control, hence we [View Full Entry]

Carnaval!

South America » Brazil » Bahia » Porto Seguro
So, with teary eyes and muitos saudades, I left beautiful Brazil! I whiled away my days in Rio seeing more of the tourist sights - Cristo Redentor (the famous Christ Statue overlooking the town), the Tijucu Forest (the largest urban forest in the world), lazing on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, going out in the funky suburbs of Lapa and Santa Theresa (with a gorgeous view over Rio), going to blocos and participating in Carnaval! I was also invited to some BBQ´s (Brazilian food is always the same staple of rice, beans, meat and maioca!). A group of Bruno´s friends play in [View Full Entry]

Tas at the Best Suco Bar in Town
We arrived at our hostel at ten pm after four hours on the bus - well ahead of schedule. We were shown to our air conditioned room. It had all worked out well, the bus to Salvador would have been 16 hours, this would have been quite painful for Tas and her sunburned back, which was now glowing quite red around her ivory white panty-shaped ass. We were both asleep in minutes and late to rise so we never got to meet the kind guest who had secured our booking. The following day was spent getting our bearings. The town proved [View Full Entry]

OK devotees, back to the keyboard after a few days off...in this episode we continue down the coast of NE Brasil, getting a taste of several states, I get drugged, deserted, mugged but rescued in Salvador, we continue to pass thru too many inumerable cute towns and gorgeous beaches to count...(but if you want the travelogue, check the discovery channel...or national geographic)...so, whats really happening? The notes in my little note book are getting more cramped as I´m down to the last couple of pages...not that theyre the last few pages, just the last few usable pages as every notebook sta [View Full Entry]

Paradise

South America » Brazil » Bahia » Porto Seguro
- Food: Very tasty. More lovely sucos, the best breakfasts yet, frango (chicken), coconuts, Bahian moqueca (fish cooked in palm oil) - Area: Very small and laid back with a hippy feel about it. But also very touristy with practically nothing else here except pousadas, restaurants and tourist shops - all of which are quite pricey compared to Rio. Idyllic paradise beaches with palm trees, cliffs, clear sea, white sand... - People: Locals friendly but the holiday makers (mostly Brazilian) not so! Hardly anyone speaks English and felt a bit like an alien again! But very nice to have totally [View Full Entry]
