We bade fairwell to sunny san pedro on a bad note. the hostel we were staying in overcharged us and there was nout really that we could do. sure it wasn´t too much anyway. i´ve had them removed from the web sites that promote hostels, which should hit them a bit. Oh how sweet revenge is. Anyway, we went on a 3 day trip from san pedro into bolivia over the salt plains, final destination Uyuni. What a trip. We did it in a jeep with 4 other tourists. At first we were a bit dismayed to have landed in what seemed like the "Pink" group. These two guys came over and introduced themselves and seemed really camp. Just so there was no mix ups, I deepened my voice and beat my chest repeatedly proclaiming, me ... read more

"Fifty years ago in Sucre, Bolivia there lived a very beautiful young lady called Lydia. She had wonderfully large eyes with curly, dangerous eyelashes rather like octopus tentacles. Her legs were also very lovely, almost two metres long whilst her lips were as soft, sensual and moist as raw sausages. In addition to her great beauty she was also very intelligent, she spoke five languages and was the best chess player in all of Bolivia. Every man in Sucre wanted to marry her. However she was also very proud. When she first looked at a man his heart would melt but when she spoke it would freeze. To each of her many admirers she said, "If you can conquer me over the chess board then you can conquer me in the bedroom." Every Sunday for five ... read more

today we were worken up by our driver who came into the room saying (in spanish) come on wake up why are you sleeping, its time for breakfast, come on get up in a very strange voice! we got up and had a breakfast of scrambled egg and bread with a hot drink and a banana before we were told it was time to go and we needed to be ready quickly. our bags were again strapped onto the top of the land cruisers. its hard to remember what order exactly we saw everything in as we saw lots of lagoons both on the second day and the third day of the trip. we saw lakes which had tinges of different colours in them, red and green. we also saw lots of flamingos on some of ... read more

On our arrival into La Paz after the fiasco of crossing borders, we noticed the change in altitude almost immedaitely. Walking a few metres with the backpacks on was knackering - we were now 3600m above sea level (London is 14 metres above sea level!!). We found a pretty good hotel to stay in and spent the evening with Alex lounging on the bed watching cable TV and me stretching and psyching myself up for the sole purpose of our trip to La Paz - The World´s Most Dangerous Road - dun, dun, duuuuuun!!!!!! Actually, in the end, we both watched a bit of telly and went out and stuffed our faces instead. I was still a little nervous though, it has to be said. Alex gave it a miss - she´s only ridden a bike ... read more

So we're back in Salta where we had been nearly two weeks previously. Our reason for coming north was 7 metres of snow on the central road to Chile. At the bus station in Salta (1400km north) they inform us that the bus to Chile is full until Sunday, this being Tuesday the 25th of July. Having spent a week in the city and surroundings we decided that waiting was not an option. Instead Chile had had it and caught the midnight bus from Salta to the Bolivian boarder. 6 hours later (This increasingly seems a small amount of time to be stuck on a bus) we were thrown off the bus into a street - the procedure being to walk over the border and catch another bus. With no sign of the border in sight ... read more

1. Things are often not what you would expect: seeing a kid pushing around a hub cap with his sister, gitty as can be, makes you wonder about the X-Box. Notice too that they are TALKING while playing. 2. Airline seats are not the most uncomfortable way to seat people on a vehicle, nor is airline food the worst food on the planet. BOLIVIAN airline food is. 3. Sleep is like swimming: you can wade around or get completely submerged, you can dive deep or stay on the surface, and you can always get pissed off when people cut it short. 4. You can learn a lot about the world from travelling with people from different parts from it. I say "football" instead of soccer now and have added about twenty hilarious bits of English slang ... read more

We had to walk to the place we had pizza the night before to start our trip. we were leaving our large rucksacks there and just taking our day bags but still had to look silly walking along the streets carrying all our bags and wearing pretty much all our clothes as it was cold! there was an advantage to this though as it meant we could have breakfast in the restaurant so both me and heath enjoyed american style pancakes with maple syrup! got to be one of the best ways to start the day! we were meet there by the two guys who would be our drivers, Bryan had assigned us into cars and so me and heath were together in a car with Nic, Caz and Katie. we also had the cook in ... read more

ojalá que ustedes esten bien OK, so it has been a few months since my last Blog. This was partly do to the fact that the Internet in Bolivia is not very fast. It took me about 15 hours to load the fotos for this blog. Also, part of the reason is that I am lazy. I have completed my Spanish studies in Sucre, Bolivia and I will be going to Peru in about a week. I will miss Sucre, it is a nice city, with friendly people, good food and great weather and the prices are just down right cheap!!!! I probably won´t spend too much time in Peru,. maybe a month and then I will head for Colombia for maybe 4 or 5 months. After that who really knows???? The fotos in this ... read more

this morning we woke up and it was freezing!!!! we open our cards mum had sent us over with ( cheers mum!!!) before going up for breakfast, wasn´t the breakfast we would have chosen to have - more bread and scrambled egg!!! the others all wished us happy birthday when they saw us which was nice. we knew the day wasn´t going to be amazing as we were going on a bus to Uyuni. the bus was really small and crammed full of people. we all had seats but there were people standing down the aisle. the journey was 6 hours long with a stop at a place we could have bought lunch, but not sure i would have trusted anything there. there was also no toilet so that involved a trip to the bushes, lovely!!! ... read more

My last entry mentioned that we were planning a mountain biking trip from La Paz. What I failed to mention was that the route would venture down the so-called "World´s Most Dangerous Road". Yes, there is some validity to that well earned title a we heard that 3 vehicles had gone off the cliff in the last week. And if I´m so afraid of heights why would I even consider this trip? For one, I feel less fear when I'm in control, for another, I enjoy a good a good thrill now and then, and finally, we chose the safest tour operator on the route (one guide per seven riders;our group of 16 had 3 guides) The route is 40 miles of which the first 10 are paved and the balance is dusty gravel, made even ... read more
