"Bolivian ganja be the best. Heed these words..." And so I continued my journey on my own. I arrived in La Paz early in the morning and grabbed the next bus ticket to Copacabana. Copacabana is a nice little town set up for tourism, but it was quiet. I checked in to my guesthouse and check my facebook messages. The group of travelers I'd traveled to the Salt Flat with were in Chili and sent their regards. I felt alone. I spent my first day at Copacabana strolling locally. Checking out places and looking for street food. The trout there was delicious and was pink, like salmon. The next day I took an early ferry to Isla del Sol, an island, which contained numerous Inca ruins. Dating back to the 15th century AD. I visited the ... read more

The further we progressed on our journey, the further apart we grew... I was miserable. I didn't want to be there. The thought of getting up and leaving occurred to me many times. But I was committed to withstand the pain and agony for a few more days..Uyuni Salt Flat was amazing. We spent the day ignoring each other, while talking at our guesthouses for the night. We stayed 3 nights in various guesthouses. All provided everything we needed. The last day of this tour we reached the Chilean-Bolivian border. It was where I said my goodbyes to her...We tipped our driver and he was happy to accept our tip. I wonder if I would ever see her again? I cried most of the way back. We stopped at a little town for lunch. We arrived ... read more

We arrived to Potosi at night and scurried to find a Hospedaje that is within our price range. We walked for a bit and then took a cab. Lorena took the reign. I just went with it. A day before we were still in Sucre. I approached Lorena, impatient with waiting, I told her my plan to leave for Potosi. To my surprise, she replied "We are leaving tomorrow." The next day we took a cab in the afternoon to the bus station. We were early for our bus to Potosi, so we grabbed a bite at a chicken rotisserie. The bus ride was beautiful. It felt great being alone with her. It felt so natural. I wanted to envelope myself in her warmth. We found a room at a Hospedaje. It had two beds. ... read more

From Puno in Peru we took a bus along the Titikaka lake, including a crossing of a small strait, across the border to Bolivia, with again beautiful landscapes of the Andes peaks and volcanoes. We ended up in La Paz, again at around 4000 meters above sea level, with perfect sunny blue skies during the day and crystal clear and cold nights. La Paz was quite a pleasant surprise, being a combination of a modern city with a very strong indigenous presence and feel, with a very touristy ghetto like city centre though. We spent a few days wandering around the city with the snowy peaks as a continuous backdrop and visiting the enormous local bi-weekly market at the El Alto, the highest major metropolis in the world, with an average elevation of 4,150 meters above ... read more

I will always remember my times in Sucre. I got off the overnight bus and looked around. Omar caught my attention. He seemed trust worthy. He called a cab for me and sent it to his hostel for a reasonable price. I arrived at the Hostel and knocked. It was still early morning. After checking in I found my bed in the full hostel room. I looked around and noticed a girl in the right corner of the room. She was on her phone. I didn't think much of it. I was too tired to even rate my attraction to her. I simply laid down on my bed and fell asleep. Plaza 25 de Mayo. Panorama view of Sucre. I woke up after a sh... read more

Made it to La Paz a couple of days ago after 17 or so hours of flying and two layover (1st in Fort Lauderdale, 2nd in Lima, Peru). It was colder than expected (33F at night) and the altitude is still bothering me. Getting from the airport to my hostel was an adventure itself. La Paz's terrain is not ideal for walking. I can see why the country invested in cable cars. These cable cars are amazing! Mi Telerifico, is what the locals referred to the cable car as. You can pretty much get to anywhere within the city. I was very timid stepping onto the cable car. Every intersection of the cable car cause a slight drop that sent my stomach up to my neck. After a couple of hours, I finally made it to ... read more

Thursday 20 July - Bolivia We went on a tour of La Paz starting with a walk through a preserved part of the old town with narrow streets made of rather slippery bricks and an alarming array of cables attached to tottering poles and house walls. We were shown the oldest church Basilica of San Francisco dating from 1549.In the main square, Plaza Murillo, we admired the Colonial style buildings including the Presidents office previously the Presidential Palace, originally built in 1850, and the Government building with a back to front clock which signified the new changes brought in by the state. We walked through the lively and colourful Mercado de Hechicería, Witches Market, which sold a variety of things including cures for almost everything and a variety of ghastly dried animals and skeletons. We bought ... read more
