And here's all of us thinking andy was thin.. You wait till your 5,890 m above sea level. Tieing your shoelaces turns into a small marathon. And don't even get me started on stairs! In the latest part of our trip we have covered the attacama desert from San pedro, through the Andes into southern Bolivia. Current position: the party town of potosi, they don't need bars they just loose all their morals out on the streets. Cracking lot! We went up mountains. ... read more

Heya guys! Sorry I haven't been in contact for ages when I left San Pedro I also appear to have left phone signal Internet and general civerlisation! We left sunny San Pedro to head for the other side of a mountain that separates Chillie and Bolivia. When we crossed the boarder for Bolivia we gradually reached higher altitides to get to boarder control. Very different from our boarder control. Bolivian boarder control consisted of a hut with a desk and two people stamping people in and out of the country. I got a headache as soon as we got there and new it would just be down hill from then. We moved all our belongings into 4x4 trucks - they are the only things that can cross the dessert and salt flats because it is literally ... read more

After the Lares trek, we had 10 days left before we had to catch our flight from Santiago in Chile to Auckland, New Zealand. We had thought about bussing it down to Santiago from Cusco and stopping off in places along the way, but so many travellers we met kept saying how great the Bolivian Salt Flats were. So we decided to go back to Bolivia. Easier said than done! The 3 day tour of the salt flats would leave us in San Pedro de Atacama, just over the Bolivia/Chile border, and from there we could make our way down to Santiago. To get to the salt flats, tours started from a little town called Uyuni. So we had to bus it back to La Paz, and then get to Uyuni from there. It was going ... read more

UNAY!!! We had a grand total of 1 say in Chile because of the snow on the border. And it was an epic day (see previus blog) and left early in the morning on friday, 7 am! and that felt like a lie in to us. we were with 3 other people, a fench couple who were very funny, and then a guy from america whose job is to write blogs, and he was somewhat interesting........ We instantly went through the border and changed from a bus to a 4x4 and had breaky out the back of the car. First stop was the Laguna Blanco which was frozen on the top so spent 20 mins throwing rocks to smash thru the ice, which was entertaining. The Laguna Verde was next and that wasnt frozen, it was ... read more

Bloody Bolivia PART 1, Hey friends and family, Where to start? Crossed the border into Bolivia without hassels and made it to the wild wild west town of Tupiza. This is where Buch Cassidy aqnd the Sun Dance Kid where finally killed. Of course we had to do some old fashioned horse riding, so we put on our best cowboy clothes and set out on a ride through the canyon. Cut a long story short, a flash flood come down the canyon and strait into us. Horses and people were screaming and Ian (lying half on his horse, with a horrified look on his face) flew off down the valley as his spooked horse went crazy. (sooooo funny) We found Ian walking horseless, covered in blood and mud!!! Sooooooooooooo funny. From tupiza we booked a 4 ... read more

We only spent about a week in Chile as it was so expensive, and after La Serena we headed straight to San Pedro de Atacama to meet our friends for a 4x4 tour. We were a bit worried about the tour as we´d heard mixed reviews, but all accommodation and food was included which sounded good. The next morning we were picked up at 7.45 and driven to the Bolivian border in a mini bus, we thought it would be a pretty long drive but about an hour later we arrived to a tiny hut in the middle of the desert which was apparently migration! We quickly got our passports stamped, were given a sandwich and some tea, and the 6 of us were transferred to our own private 4x4. We weren´t too sure of the ... read more

We have finally made it into Bolivia. After roughly 3 weeks in Argentina we're now getting stuck in to the hardcore travelling. Our first stop was Villazón, a town on the border that fuses with the Argentinean town of La Quiaca. Here we did nothing. We immediately caught our first Bolivian bus to Tupiza. The bus was actually alright. We were expecting to find ourselves on some rickety old deathtrap with no wheels or engine, powered by llamas eating coca leaves but it was actually a proper bus. Don't let this experience fool you though, looking at the buses here in Uyuni it's obvious that the bad reputation they get is probably deserved. They look crap. Anyway, we arrived in Tupiza, which is a town renowned for looking like something taken out of a western film. ... read more

Aie aie aie. ... read more
