EN FRANCAIS PLUS BAS MORE PHOTOS HERE As Karine and I arrive in Copacabana, we both wonder why on earth our Argentines friends said they literally loved the place and would have wanted to stay a whole week. Apart from the extremely touristy strip, where all the restaurants are serving the exact same food for the exact same price, the rain, and the dodgiest hostels I have seen in all my trip, the only thing the town has to offer is a hill, from where the views to the Lake Titicaca are breathtakingly beautiful. The next morning, we hop on the morning boat to Isla del Sol, and are followed by so many people with their added luggage weight that the boat was as low and slow as possible. With no life jacket or donut in ... read more

Hello So how long does it take to travel 208km???....2hrs max, you may think!.......Not in Bolivia! It took us 8 long bumpy hours, crossing flooded roads, through almighty hail storms, up and down mountains and through some of the most spectacular scenery you could imagine! Another pounding to our already aching behinds and we eventually made it to Uyuni....phew what a flying tour of the country we're in the middle of. On arrival our hearts sank, on first impressions it was exactly the type of place that we despise.....a town surviving purely for the tourist industry, full of pizzarias, tour agencies, hotels and not much more. It's a good job we're not here for anything else. After finding a place to stay we hastinly set out to find a tour to visit the largest salt plains ... read more

Du vil vel rekke geysirene i soloppgangen?

From La Paz we journeyed down to the south west of Bolivia, and took the "night bus", although the journey was so incredibly unconfortable no one slept except two americans who had taken a hand full of vallium pills to help them sleep. We arrived very early in the morning but could quickly see it was a very small place that operated for one reason only - for people to pass through either to or from the Salar de Uyuni, the famous salt flats. Uyuni was a very small and uneventful town, and we quickly booked ourselves onto a jeep leaving the next morning. The salt flats we created when a large lake dried out leaving miles and miles of salt, that in a way resembles a desert, only salt and not sand. As we were ... read more

Uyuni, Bolivia 4.20pm Thanks for all of your comments and congratulations- we have just been able to read them. Welcome Paul and all to our blog - thanks for reading. We have spent the last few days crossing Bolivia by 4WD so have not had a chance to add an entry. Since leaving Buenos Aires we took a flight to Salta in the north of Argentina where we saw a soccer game between Argentina under 20s v Boliva under 20s. Good night out (there was an upset though, boliva won!) The following day we took a bus to Cafayete where we saw some awesome rock formations not unlike the grand canyon. We visited two wineries - and enjoyed the local malbec- they even make icecream out of it! On day three of our organised tour we ... read more

First and foremost, I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. I realize that I have been slacking. I´ve been caught up in this still sometimes foreign world that amazes, amuses, frustrates, and enlightens me. This blog, which has been taken straight from the pages of my newly aquired llama journal (thanks J!), will have to be short as I am headed on a three day jeep trek through the salt flats in approximately T minus one hour. First a preface I´ve just come off of a seven hour train ride through the snow. Every single adult in my cabin has at least two children, and they all cry intermittently during the ride. The seats recline, thank god, but they fall short about a foot leaving only a backing for my shoulders down. I ... read more

Really not my day! It all started harmlessly enough wandering the fascinating witches markets admiring the dried llama foetuses. At noon, Gonzalo picked us up and walked us to his favourite steakhouse near the bus station where we are going to catch the bus to Oruro to get the train to Uyuni. Here is where it started to go horribly wrong, as on the way down the steep downhill steps, I rolled my ankle - badly. In fact as I rolled it I surged left and pushed an old local lady into a wall. I instantly felt it swelling in my shoe. I toughed it out and walked to lunch, a very nice steak with sausages - one of them a blood sausage! Once I got up, I could hardly walk and limped the 2 blocks ... read more
