We left our nice hotel in Uyuni and the group headed off in 3 separate 4WD jeeps. Our reg plate was STU and we had Stu in our car an therefore know as the Stu mobile. We headed straight for the Salt flats and they were amazing fun. We had a quick stop for some photos and then went to a Coral Island and explored and saw all the Cacti. We have 2 cooks who make our meals so we had a lovely lunch and then spent the best part of 3 hours taking lots of silly perspective photos as you will se from the pictures. After this we headed to our accommodation for the evening - a hotel made entirely from salt! it is very cold in the Salar and we played card games, had a great dinner followed by drinks, card games and chat.
The next day we headed out of the salt flats and into the desert to see cool rock formations, flamingos on a frozen lake and a volcano. the landscape is stunning and unlike anything we had seen before. this evening we stayed in a building with dorm style beds and it was even colder
so we all wnt to bed with about 5 layers and 5 blankets! Lots of people are feeling the altitude and lots have been vomitting or been really tired and not themselves.
3rd day - a vert early start at 6am to see the geysers and it was so cold we could hardly convince ourseñves to get out of the car and take pictures! We saw another volcano and then headed to the hot springs. Now usually if it was -15 degrees i wouldn´t consider wearing only a bikini but the water was 38 degrees and we hadn´t had a shower or even warm water for 2 days so we all jumped straight in! It was so good and surprisingly it wan´t even that bad etting dried and putting our clothes back on.
After lunch we headed to laguna colorado and the green lake which was stunning and it is right ion the border of Chile and Argentina.
It was a long drive back to Uyuni and the Stu mobile was full of silly alphabet games - one which we kept going for almost 3 hours i think! It kept us entertained anyway!
back at Uyuni
we had a pizza and got the midnight train for 7 hours, public bus for 3 hours and finally arrived in La Paz.
more from here soon...
