Another exciiting and worthwhile expedition is the one from Cobija,Pando,Bolivia, up the Acre River all the way to BOLPEBRA, which is the point where Bolivia,Peru and Brazil meet at a joint border. with Sao Francisco de Asis, in Brazil, and Inhapiri in Peru. Along the way you must stop to meet the Yaminawa ethnic group at Puerto Yaminawa, which is halve way up the Acre on the Bolivian side of the bank. Try to make this trip in the rainy season, December,January,or February, otherwise the Acre river will be to shallow and you will have to wade part of the way. Considering that there is plenty of wild life, it is best to stay on your canoe, and by no means go to sleep or take a znoose, for water anacondas, dog fish, and other species, ... read more

Here´s the description of the Choro Trek hike: I´ll start with introducing my hiking partner. His name is Sebastian, he´s 28, German and is doing his final internship in Bolivia before graduating with an civil engineering degree. He´s been in Bolivia for a bit more than 3 month now and his Spanish is already really good. Hopefully I´ll do just as well. For that we only knew each other for a few hours before we decided to go on this hike together, we got along really well. The night before we left, we packed our backpacks, stored everything we weren´t gonna bring in the hostel locker and then went out for a big dinner and some drinks - already in our hiking gear, including boots and everything. Early in the morning we caught a taxi to ... read more

We´ve made it to Pando! I´ve heard it been said that New Zealand is at ´the ends of the earth´, but I´ve never felt more at the ends of the earth than driving to Cobija (the capital of the department of Pando), even though we are in the middle of a vast continent. It took us 3 days to drive here - 30 hours, 95% of it on dirt roads mostly through sparsely populated wetlands and jungle. It is a drive that´s not undertaken very much, mostly by a few truckies doing business. So when James, Iara (a student of James whose family lives in Pando) and I told people that we were driving to Cobija (on the Bolivian-Brazilian border) we got very surprised looks. We found out why... we dropped down from the mountains surrounding ... read more
