the start of our day! Hey everyone,
So on the 18th on January we decided that would would test out biking on the yunges road... also known as the worlds most dangerous road. It has been pretty much shut down to cars for the last couple years because the enoumous amount of people who have died while driving on it. This was Quinns silly idea, and well because i love him i agreed to go along. While Quinn slept peacefully the night prior to going on this crazy adventure, i was up half the night imagining how much it would hurt or worst... to fall off the bike on this road!. Lucky for me i can tell you first hand... it hurts alot! hahaha Not to worry i am fine and my war wounds are healing nicely. Also lucky for me i fell off near the very end so I got to enjoy all the nerving twists and turns!
The day started off with about an hour of high speed riding on wet pavement on the highway.... not yet at the most dangerous part... but it was raining so hard that you could hardly see and the wind was almost blowing us over!...

a turned over bus we went past on the way to our starting point! intense... one of the riders decided not to continue! Then came the yunges road... at the beginning Quinn said that it was not that narrow,.... 2 minutes later you could not even lay down it was so narrow... OH MY!!!!!!
The total ride was about 4 hours long... 3345 meters of vertical desent in over 64 kilometers!
After falling off the bike, we sat in the car for the last 15 ish minutes of the ride, i was ok, at first worried about my shoulder, and happy we wore helmets!!! My elbow was stinging, but was not too bad.... however at lunch i took off my sweater and to the whole table gasp... especially from quinn it looked like my elbow was having a baby! Worried now that something was broken, we just wanted to get back to lapaz... a 4 hour drive! ha just our luck! However the driver did get out of a ticket on the way home explaining that they needed to get me to a hospital hahaha.
Other then that, the ride was unbelievable! The scenery was amazing and there were parts that hundreds of feet of waterfalls would fall onto us and the
road... wow! You will see from the pictures how crazy this really was. That night we went to the hospital, and they xrayed it and no broken bones! YAY! but i did break a blood vessal and since we were going to the pampas, (bolivian amazon) the following day the doctor either wanted to drain it or cast it! we picked drain it because it would be way too hot for a cast and he said that it would not hurt. Well, the freezing did not take and i felt ever scelpal cut and jab with the dull ended sissors! haha what a day! lucky for you we have tons of pics and some great video! Quinn at the end of the day says to me, "pokey, please dont ever do that to me again, you scared me"... i just looked at him and said 'oh I am sorry hunny, i never would have done that if i thought you would be affected by it" hahahaha We think it is a good story now and i will have to scar forever to prove it!
enjoy the pics and let us know what you think!
love,
Randi and Quinn
